Transfer Portal 2025

I’ve talked a LOT of trash on Garri$$on since he spurned us, but he’s what we need.

Not only is he not a guy I want in OU's locker room, he's just not actually very good. The hype has never matched the results.

He's getting recruited over already. When they got the kid from ASU, I was wondering if he would portal. I dunno, he could help us, but the guy seems like a d-bag to me...not sure he's even worth it at this point. And I DEF wouldn't pay him a million +! He isn't good enough for that kind of money imo.

This may be our first disagreement...wow.

At the same time, comparing Garrison to Godwin in my scoring system does seem to match your side much more than mine. Maybe the hype train, maybe the lower usage rate? Side by side:

Kentucky is trying to upgrade.

They just took the JQ kid. Former 5 star.

and now they want another tall kid Alvaro F, (don't feel like spelling or googling lol) to replace BG.

Ugh. It's a tough one. I think with him being so cringey I'd take him but maybe only if it's a team friendly deal and he'd never do that
That's part of my disdain.

He chased money this time last year. I'm not anti-chasing money, especially for kids like Garrison who, if they want to keep playing basketball post-college, will be choosing G-League vs Overseas....but I could have told him that A) OU's offer was more than fair B) his role/fit at OU would have been way better.

Get Duke Brennan on campus, the Doryan kid for GTech, and...."we" can scout more names if necessary, lol (I haven't dug into centers myself).

You’re not going to find a lot of centers with Garrison’s switchability defensively & that’s not always apparent on a stat sheet. He’d absolutely make OU better, but the locker room factor has to be taken into account. I’d have the conversation with my players and get their thoughts on it tbh. Players love when you give them some ownership. I also think **** talking is less of a big deal to players than it is to fans. There are certainly levels to that though. I’d check the temperature.

This is where I’d be worried. His **** talking escalated beyond what’s normal.

We're bound to disagree at times, lol.

It's tough.

On one hand, OU needs better than Wague (or Godwin last year). Garrison could still be that (wouldn't be hard, really). Rogers, maybe, we'll see.

On the other hand, Garrison hasn't shown much to date, has spurned OU, even went out of his way to be a huge dic* when they played this year (it didn't ruffle my feathers but it did for so many others), and he'll probably think he still deserves a good pay day (or his agent will).

The biggest issue is likely....as much as I'm excited about Pack, and to a much lesser degree, Davis, this staff seems to devalue the C (BIG) spot, they don't seem to be in on any decent Cs, and Garrison might be as good as this staff can do/evaluate.

Yeah. He's probably going to have to take a paycut wherever he's going next. Just have to hope he's humble, and wants PT instead of wanting a ton of money.

I’d be willing to bet a good chunk of money that we at least reach out if/when he hits the portal. I’m not convinced Garrison is really a “cancer”, he seems more like a guy who talks a lot of trash. From what I’ve seen, his teammates at Kentucky seemed to really like him. For what it’s worth, Fears is a huge trash talker too, and he was loved by the team this year.

My bigger concern is the financial side of things, not the locker room fit. If he’s expecting the same NIL deal he had this past year, he can keep it moving. There are better players out there with more proven production. But if he’s open to a more reasonable NIL number, then it’s worth having a conversation.

With our current back court, we’re definitely going to need rim protection and he could really help in that area.
