Transfer Portal 2025

I just think it should be a frontcourt guy because a) not sure how much we should rely on Rogers or a guy like Atak, b) we don’t need Davis playing 5 for extended minutes, and c) you run into foul trouble at these spots more than any other. Plus we know Wague is going to foul plenty and the other 5 is a freshman. The wildcard would be someone like Holst showing he’s capable of playing some minutes at 4/5 but I wouldn’t count on that. I do like his potential because he moves really well for a guy with that length but it’s hard to know whether it’ll translate, or how quickly it’ll translate.
In this sense, maybe they view Reid as someone who can play the 4/5... just don't see how at 6'7

I've got $100 Holst will redshirt. I'll put more faith that Atak can play the 4 and Davis play the 5 than that Holst will contribute.

He’s in.

If you had to choose 1 more serviceable big or guard… which one?

Other spot would be a flier
Hard question. At the three guard spots, we've got:
  • Pack, Brown, Forsythe, Jones, Nwankwo, and Blair?
At the 4/5, we've got:
  • Davis, Wague, Rogers, Holst, Atak, (maybe Nwankwo)
We need both, but the biggest need is 4/5. Need a strong big. Only 3 serviceable players with experience for two positions. Nwankwo (and maybe Blair) can play the 4 in small-ball lineups, but not enough depth at that position with foul trouble and Rogers as a freshman.

I think we can pick up a late guard who can bring some defense / toughness in the backcourt to off-set some of the size concerns with Pack, Forsythe, and Brown.

Was watching some jeff nwankwo tape this morning. Not saying he'll have the same stats, but he plays very similar to Otega IMO. Big body guard who uses his strength and athleticism to get downhill, solid outside shooter because he takes good shots (in rhythm, open, etc.), and strong rebounder. Good defender but has especially good anticipation at his size to run through passing lanes.

He's quick for 220 and can present some match-up challenges for some of the bigger PFs out there. If his athleticism is back to pre-injury status, I could see him starting. is there a world where we go small-ball with Brown, Pack, Jones, Nwankwo, and Davis as our starters? There's a good chance they're our five best players...

To me there aren’t a lot of minutes to go around at the guard spots currently unless an injury happens, but there are minutes available right now for a rotation big even without an injury. Give me a big. Would love a versatile 4/5 type but if I have to choose one or the other, give me a true 5.

That lineup would get destroyed on the glass. We just experienced what it’s like to play against SEC bigs. If we play a lineup where our biggest guy is a player who averaged five boards in a terrible ACC, we may not get a defensive board all season.

Same. Give me a more quality big. Take a chance on an underrated guard

Coach, what was your opinion of the 7 foot kid at union and 6 ‘10 kid at owasso. Any thought they could be developmental kids at ou. Also, i have only seen montenati play once but wasn’t too impressed. What is your take on him?

Must have missed where he is a formal commit. He may be a foregone conclusion, sure. But I have been there before, and OU has been burned by foregone conclusions before. See David Stone.
Lots of credible portal experts have reported it, but still not in the bag until it's reported by Brown / Scott.

I like Jax Kerr but he’s not hm yet. Needs a college weight room. Never saw the union big.

I’m out on Jalen. Right now. I thought he was better last year than this year. It’s so much hero ball it’s hard to watch. He’s gonna be really good but I don’t think he’s all star right now.

I just want a mid 6'10 Center. Honestly, a Sam Godwin type off the bench would be immaculate with this coming team. Was Godwin good? Not really, but at this point finding a Godwin type would be a win.
