Transfer Portal 2025

1: Xzayvier Brown, Dayton Forsythe
2: Nigel Pack, (think we need one)
3: Jadon Jones, Jeff Nwankwo
4: Tae Davis, Alec Blair (maybe - 3/4), Andreas Holst (3/4), Kuol Atak
5: Mohamed Wague, Kai Rogers (think we need one)

Bold are needs
Italics are bench-bodies

I think our guards all swap and play through. Pack, Brown, Forsythe can all handle the 1 and 2.
i think Jones can play the 2 as well .. and Alec Blair is a 3 Nwankwo can play the 4 as much as the 3 ..

best combo guard you can find and best 4/5 junk yard dog you can find .. (clearly i would rather a star 5 but that isn't happening)

I agree with both of your "think we need ones". I would see Nwankwo playing some 4 over Blair though. Jeff is a strong dude who could bang down low a bit, much like Soares and Taylor did over the last two years. I almost look as him as a tweener...but we will see. I'd like to see the additional guard have some size, 6-4 - 6'5ish. And I'd like to see the additional post be 1) athletic and 2) be able to block some shots and rebound. I'd take that kid who recently portaled from T Tech. He fits that bill.

For a Cowley College guy that also couldn't get on the field at tulane football prior to that? No way. I don't believe the pricing on nwanko at all and if we are paying him that, hopefully it's the last grandfathered remains of dumb Joe C basketball. Where we weren't operating as a business..

I hope he's a total stud but we shouldn't be paying him much for his lack of body of work. He's not a 5. There's untold amounts of dudes his size we could find for cheaper.

You think the Jets asked Aaron Rodgers to take a payout after sitting out with an Achilles injury?

If you pay someone X dollars and they get hurt they aren't docking them pay because they got injured at work.

No way you just compared a hall of famer to Jeff Nwankwo the community college basketball player 😂

Look, it’s not even worth discussing how much players are getting paid because the NIL market isn’t a logical one. It defies all common sense. I’m sure JN is getting paid more than he’s worth but they ALL are. It makes me sick to think how much Jackson Arnold made last year with his putrid performances.

Here's my issue, I feel GREAT about this core:

1/2 - Brown, Forsythe, Pack (need one more bench body for depth)
3 - Jones and Nwankwo are solid here. Expect them to fill the 2 guard at times in a big lineup
4 - Tae Davis is good, but I have zero hope for anyone listed behind him
5 - Wague and Kai Rogers are solid but need one more for depth

To me, though, the 4 is our biggest issue talent-wise unless one of the freshman + atak surprises. So I would prefer someone who can play the 4/5 vs. a treu BIG center. Also, not sure why a sophomore Atak who we know can shoot the lights out is lower than a freshman Holst who doesn't.

No, the Jets fired Aaron Rodgers. So…

not really a good analogy.

IF HEALTHY Nwankwo can play the 4 just as well as moore did

Well, another key difference is that crazy Aaron had a contract. And NFL teams do occasionally ask players to restructure deals, or flatout release them, if their health and/or performance declines.

I have no clue what Jones' and JN's NIL market was like this spring compared to last. Very hard to know. JN has zero experience above JUCO and is coming off a major injury, and even in this crazy market, I doubt he had many big offers. Jones has played at a very low level D1 conference, and back injuries are notoriously tricky, so I think it's unlikely we had to break the bank to fight off big offers for him, either. But that's pure speculation on my part.

Never thought I’d be on this side of a PJ Haggerty discussion because I’m not a huge fan either, but he was just conference player of the year on a team that went 29-6 and won their conference with an AAU coach leading them. Seems to disprove what you just said at least a little.
He had a good supporting cast playing in a 1 bid league. They had some good wins. Bounced out of NCAA tournament 1st game and he Bombers. Take a gleen at his Tulsa year……

i agree with all of this ..

but also 300k is no longer a "big offer" in big time CBB

These 7ft centers scoring 10-8 are getting 2mil

If you don’t think a juco all American, elite athlete, high high upside, is getting 300k you’re out of touch.

What do you think Dayton got before this year?
Juco all Americans like Omar leary?

What does Tulane have to do with this? That was 3 years ago. Most d1footballers can’t switch to hoops and make something out of themselves

Honest question what do you think his value?
Goes back to his body of work (or lack thereof thus far). Prolly 120-200 max imo

No chance.

If we aren’t and we aren’t spending over that 10mil roster… we aren’t a top 20 talented roster.
$$ doesn't automatically = real talent tho (just theoretical talent). I guarantee KU paid top 20 and didn't end up with a very good team

You’d have a really really bad team if you 120-200k is the going rate!

Ku had more talent than most but sure throwing money at it always doesn’t work!
