Transfer Portal 2025

Also, not sure why a sophomore Atak who we know can shoot the lights out is lower than a freshman Holst who doesn't.
I see both as bench bodies, so flipping them in order doesn't mean much to me either way.

This is a "layman's attempt" at a roster look. Lots of hybrid roles for our rotation and best guessing for players we have not seen vs good competition yet.

Portal wise, maybe we try and look at a JUCO big to fill a block and defend type role, 8-10 mins per game while Kai gets up to speed. Considering big prices are stupid right now. Or, like @BoulderSooner suggested, we go tweener 4/5 dawg.

Not a portal update but not worthy of a new thread: ESPN updated their high school rankings and they have Blair in the 50s and Rogers in the 80s. It didn't have any analysis, just the rankings. I am not convinced Blair will turn down the baseball draft, and am certainly not counting on Rogers being a difference maker as a freshman.

Well, another key difference is that crazy Aaron had a contract. And NFL teams do occasionally ask players to restructure deals, or flatout release them, if their health and/or performance declines.

I have no clue what Jones' and JN's NIL market was like this spring compared to last. Very hard to know. JN has zero experience above JUCO and is coming off a major injury, and even in this crazy market, I doubt he had many big offers. Jones has played at a very low level D1 conference, and back injuries are notoriously tricky, so I think it's unlikely we had to break the bank to fight off big offers for him, either. But that's pure speculation on my part.

Find me an example of someone restructuring contracts for anything other than saving cap space in the NFL the last 3 years.

I've seen plenty of guys get cut after an injury.

No way you just compared a hall of famer to Jeff Nwankwo the community college basketball player 😂

Look, it’s not even worth discussing how much players are getting paid because the NIL market isn’t a logical one. It defies all common sense. I’m sure JN is getting paid more than he’s worth but they ALL are. It makes me sick to think how much Jackson Arnold made last year with his putrid performances.

I simply used an example of a player getting hurt and not taking a pay cut but you can line up names if you like of every NFL or NBA guy who gets hurt and if they are asked to restructure their deal the next year. Feel free.

In the NFL they may get cut but there are MANY NBA examples.

How about Gabe Vincent?? Jared Vanderbilt? Both on the shelf for basically a year.

I'm sure you get the actual gist.

I agree on the idea of whether a guy is worth it but in no corner of my mind is a guy who averages 10 ppg and 6 rpg (made up stats) at a mid-major worth 7 figures but you are seeing those numbers thrown around this year.

nba players can't restructure deals

and LOTS of nfl players take smaller contracts to not get cut

My big point is nothing is logical in the portal and NIL. people are pissing in the wind with the money being thrown around. It's incredibly dumb and illogical. No way is it sustainable.

The NCAA made 1.2-1.3 billion last year from basketball revenue. If the did a 50/50 split and divided that money between only the tournament teams it comes out to less than $9 million per team.

You think the Jets asked Aaron Rodgers to take a payout after sitting out with an Achilles injury?

If you pay someone X dollars and they get hurt they aren't docking them pay because they got injured at work.
Not even the argument i made (not injury based but rather they haven't done anything yet in power conference). But to answer your question, I would not be surprised if the jets had Rodgers give some concessions.. also they have a CBA and strong Ks unlike semi-pro (college)

You’d have a really really bad team if you 120-200k is the going rate!

Ku had more talent than most but sure throwing money at it always doesn’t work!
Not going rate. But very well could or should be for 2 guys that haven't played yet at ou and 1 has 0 D1 pts..

but that is not relevant ..

your split is counting 350 teams .. only 60ish matter .. 10 mil basketball pay rolls is very very sustainable

Screw it, take both Florida kids and call it a done deal 🙂

i agree, not sure we can afford either one though.

For one of the last two spots, I like Aberdeen. Good size, combo guard, can play a little D. Not a great shooter, but not terrible. Not sure he would accept a bench role as that's what he played at UF. May be looking for more of a role or $$ than we can offer.

But if he was willing to pay for that 15-20 minutes spot in the rotation and within our offer, he would be great.

As far as Alexis, I've given up on any big men (or a 4/5) from a P4 conference. NIL market is too much for those guys. We might have to settle for some guy, IDK, like a walk on from a small school like Wofford or somewhere who's like 6'10" give or take looking to get back to this part of the country. 😬
