Transfer Portal 2027

I actually think he would be a good get. A starter? IDK, but like his overall game.
Do we know if OU has met with Riley?
I found this on a Maryland board, as it looks like he's one of their top 3 current options: "A rising senior from Las Vegas, Riley averaged 15.0 points and 4.4 assists while shooting 38.9 percent from three. Auburn, Marquette and Iowa are all in the mix." No insight into his status, but several posters really like him.
Thought this comment was interesting - "Riley's trajectory is so weird, he went from a backup who barely saw any time for a lot of his sophomore season at Cal Baptist to one of the two best players on a really good AAC team."

Auburn apparently wants him as a backup but he wants to be a starter.
Iowa's latest update makes no mention of him, as they're apparently going after Kyan Evans instead.
No clue about Marquette.

Lusk made it sound like we've contacted him recently and we're now involved..

Lusk update: Hill Jr, Wagner and Riley(tulsa) are the top targets, getting a guard to pair with brown is the no.1 priority, T.O. Barrett is still an option.. commit no.2 still expected to announce soon(nothing has changed on that)
I haven't read anything giving me any hope of OU getting Hill.
The latest from the KU board said that he was down to KU and Tenn as of Saturday, he visited KU earlier this week, and "Latest intel (4/15): Hill departed campus without committing and is taking a visit to Tennessee. KU is still recruiting him, though, and is still in the fight."
Per the Tenn board, Hill arrived at Tenn yesterday and he would slide into a starting spot for them. "Great news for the Vols that Hill made it out of his Kansas visit without committing. Hill would probably be the point guard as of today if Tennessee were able to land him. Very similar game to Ja'Kobi Gillespie."

HUGE differences between Hill Jr./Riley and Wagner and Barrett.

I don't think we can go into next season expecting Wagner or Barrett to start.

I think Rooths can have an equal impact to Davis because A) Davis's defensive prowess was supremely overrated and B) Davis was not a good rebounder unless he really wanted to be. Per 100 possessions, Rooths was significantly better than Davis defensively and only marginally worse offensively. Equal impact or net gain. If they played the same number of minutes, their stats would have been very similar, but Rooths would have more of a defensive impact, especially off ball.

crup moser can't improve beyond the bubble with "equal impact" or a slight net gain.

Lusk made it sound like hill is setting up a visit.. we'll see..

I said earlier I didn't think Riley would want to go somewhere and come off the bench. It's the Senior season for a guy that didn't play a ton the first two years of his career. He likely wants to start. I think OU is just about in a position where we can offer him the starting 2 guard spot. Probably not ideal. I'd love to have him coming off the bench as well, but we aren't going to be close to being in a position to sign him and somebody better.

Go look at 247. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of kids still available, but the top 50 or so are starting to be limited in who isn't committed.

As a reminder, Brown, Reid, and Pack were all 39th or better in last year's Portal.

To state the obvious, it's discouraging that we aren't off to a better start. And last season aside, there isn't a ton of reason to be optimistic. Two years ago, we got Duke (and then didn't use him as well as we should have), but the rest of the class was meh guys like Elvis and Goodine. In previous years, we ended up with guys like McCollum (who was largely overmatched once conference started), Darthard (a very limited player), and Hugley. Soares and Moore were obviously good gets, and Sherfield had his moments. But all in all, I would say we have a spotty track record of bringing in guys who can be true difference makers in the Big 12/SEC. I fear we are going to be left settling for leftovers after our main targets go elsewhere. Would sure love to be wrong and see us snag two or three guys who maybe haven't been publicly linked to us yet.

Could not disagree more. At the 1 and 2 spots we currently have Brown and Forsythe. That is so far from being good enough that it's not even funny.

I'm assuming Hill Jr. isn't an option at all.

That leaves the kid from TU as the only semi-difference making guard that I've seen us in on at this point. And the options are starting to be more limited.

Edit: Let's not forget, we are replacing Pack and Jones. Both were pretty good players for us, and we still weren't good enough to make the Dance. Best case, is Rooths going to be better than Davis? Myself and others warned the board that it was very likely, on paper, our team next year wouldn't be as talented as it was this past year. That is starting to come to fruition. Denny promises or not.
There are so many guards available. We can still do just fine there, but if we don’t spend on a big man, we’re probably going to overpay for said guards.

One less scholarship

I'm happy for the young man, whoever he is, but does this strike anybody else as incredibly tone deaf? We have one public portal commitment who is arguably a "slight upgrade" from Tae Davis and seem to be bridesmaids for many of our other targets so we announce giving a scholarship to a walk on?? Please make it make sense.

there are not really walkon's any more and i think most assumed he was already on scholarship

Lusk has it, between Oklahoma, Baylor and Illinois for kayden.. Illinois is trying to get both brothers but lusk also mentioned Dylan will be redshirting wherever he goes due to injury??
Latest update from the Baylor board: "...Dylan Mingo is struggling with an injury that will likely cause him to redshirt this year. This COULD be a very good path to get both Mingo brothers for the Bears. I think this is likely right now. Still feel that Kayden will commit to Baylor based on everything I am hearing..."
