Transfer Portal 2027

we're looking at a last place finish in the sec next season..
congrats roger denny
I would blame Joe C for this hire, the contract extension, and resigning which left this mess to a new AD long before i would start blaming Denny. The timing of Denny taking over with a month left of the season was never going to be convenient in firing Moser. I get the frustration of the current state of the program but its far too early to blame an AD who has only been on the job 2 months, he needs to be judged with what's happening this time next year in my opinion.

I don't blame Joe Castiglidiot for the hire. It was not a bad hire at the time. It is malpractice however to have extended him however (and also extending Brent Venables, at the time). Its put our bball team in purgatory when we cannot afford to invest in it bc we are desperately trying to keep our cash cow (football) in the elite status as a small state with a smaller BMD pool compared to some of these other schools

thus far (and i know there's still time to grab more players) Denny has followed through on zilch as far as helping both programs land players that will continue to elevate them in the upwards trajectory. I hope he pulls a magic trick and brings elite players to OU in both bb programs but the longer it takes the less confident I am that it'll happen. idk who we are in on right now besides the Mingo brothers and the Tulsa kid.

I would love to know what Denny would have done had we not gotten "hot" and won a few games down the stretch that didn't mean anything in the big picture. If he let a few games sway him, rather than focusing on the full 160-game sample (or the 20-year sample, for that matter), that's concerning. I'd almost feel better about his decision making process if he had decided to keep him regardless of whether we went 8-3 or 4-7 over the last few weeks. Few things in sports are more alarming than when decision makers get swayed by small sample sizes.

But you are 100 percent right about Joe's decisions to extend PM and Brent. One simple rule of thumb ADs should follow: if there is no other power conference school that would even remotely consider hiring the guy at the time of the extension, it is a very bad idea, and totally unnecessary. It's one thing to extend a guy to try to fend off other programs, or to protect yourself financially if another school manages to pry him away. But when there is no risk of that happening, it is idiotic to extend.

Who wants to tell him?

Are the women not doing pretty well? At least a couple of former 5* recruits that have done well elsewhere, no?

Seems to me a bunch of you guys are complaining about losing the race before it is over. Plenty of time to complain about the roster if and when we get one. Tons of kids in the portal. There is a wide range of kids you can win with. Heck he put together a couple competitive rosters here when he was the only power 4 program in America without any NIL. He was 3-4 missed shots at the end of games from making the NCAA this year with the lowest NIL budget in the SEC, and had to play that roster against an SEC gauntlet. Whatever our NIL budget is, you would think it is at least better than last year.

Like him or not, he is going to be the coach next year. No reason to be so negative at least until we see what he puts together as a roster. I think so far we have done OK, we have gotten Reed, Rogers, Forsythe, Brown, Rooths and Hendricks on the team. As far as I know, we still have mayfield coming in. The only kid we lost that could come back was Atak (my favorite player), so that hurts. But all in all, we did about as good a job as we could in retention.

The race feels over because the amount of game changing players that are still available are dwindling and we aren't even in on many of those. This may be our worst roster since year 2 under Moser. And to those saying we don't have the money to compete, the roster this year was at least middle of the pack in the SEC and we didn't even make the tournament.

Laughable comment. Ridiculous to make this assertion when it is all but assured we have more NIL than plenty of power conference teams. You think Pack, Brown, Reid, and Davis were playing for free?

Why do some people, Denny included, keep ignoring the fact that our Portal class last year was ranked in the top 10 by most? I don't pretend to know how much NIL we have or where we rank, but I do know we brought in some talent last year. How did we do that if we are so destitute? They darn sure didn't come here to be developed by our outstanding coach.

Brent V's agent bent over Joe C. He was saying that other schools were looking at BV hard. Total joke, esp at the time, but Joe C either bought it or just wanted to be "nice" with crimson glasses on too

I’ll maintain hope until there is none because I prefer to root for teams with that mindset. Although right now it’s looking bleak! So I handle that usually with some humor.

Others facing a bleak situation prefer to have no hope and be relentlessly negative. We all consume entertainment in different ways.
