2021 Wing from Heritage Hall reportedly has been offered by OU. Saw him twice at the state tournament and he is the real deal.

Absolute star in the making. Nephew of.... deangelo Alexander

Neither I’d say...

Young family is close to them. I think that helps us

Don't know anything about Trey. But, his uncle could literally defy gravity and fly. I don't even know if you could compute his vertical with a running start.

Can't remember what happened to Deangelo at OU. Did he end up leaving before graduation and expiration of eligibiiity? Kid could play ball.

Someone will recall more than I do, but he transferred to a school in, I think, the southeast. There were academic issues and, some insisted at the time, disagreements with Sampson.

There, that leaves lots of blanks for others to fill in.

Transferred to Charlotte & was conference POY there.

Hey BC, was a Price brother the coach back at that time?

Edit; Wow, I was way off. Bobby Lutz was the coach. Mark Price coached there in 15-17. Lasted three years going 30-42. Maybe one of you wiser fellows could tell me the happenings between Mark and OU back in the day? Did OU recruit him hard coming out of Enid? Seems like he was made to fit that up tempo system. That era was a little before my time. I knew about the Price Brothers later on and still have a branded image of the Cavs getting crushed by the Bulls for what seemed like much of my childhood. Side note: I came across a pretty good youtube video the other day tiled, "The most underrated player who helped change the NBA: Mark Price.

Sorry to slide off topic from Tray Alexander. Sounds like a heck of player already. I'm assuming from some of the remarks that Tray will have all the big dogs after him pretty early as well?

Bobby Cremins treated Mark like a rock star and even showed up at Enid High in the hallway. Saw him myself. They just clicked. It wasn't any slam on Billy or OU really. Denny thought Tubbs was funny as did Matt.

Thanks Coolm, didn't know you were a NW Okie. I'm assuming you saw him play in high school? Was Mark on another level back then? Seems like he was ahead of his time.

I went to HS with him and his brother Matt. Mark was class of 82 while Matt and I were both class of 84. I also knew them from the OKC Rams in AAU with Johnny Williams II and Scooter.

He was good at everything and such an exceptional shooter. Not overly athletic but he would surprise you in that regard too. I think his mental toughness was his biggest asset. You couldnt shake him. Unbreakable. Plus his mom and dad were the best.

I used to take my sons to basketball camp at the now defunct Phillips Ubiversity in Enid where Denny Price was the coach. Matt and sometimes Brent would help with the camp. We lived in Ponca City so I would often stay and watch the camp, so I got to know Denny. He was a really nice guy.

Years later, Brent was playing for the Houston Rockets and I ran into Denny and his wife at a game. He remembered me and my son’s names, so we visited for about 15 minutes. I have nothing but good memories of the Price family. Pure class.

I don’t think Mark ever considered OU. Georgia Tech was a higher profile school although Matk graduated he same year that Waymon did. Brent actually went to South Carolina for 2 years before transferring to OU.

Denny was a star player for the Sooners back in the day. Lester Lane was named the coach at OU after John McLeod left OU for the NBA, but Lester died in a pickup game before the season started in 1973. He never coached a game for the Sooners. OU then promoted assistant coach Joe Ramsey to the head coaching position over Denny who was also an assistant coach under Lester Lane.

I think Denny was upset over being passed over for the OU job and that was a factor in Mark and Brent not considering OU after HS. At the time I had an “in” with the basketball office. Bob “Go-Go” Stevens was the OU coach before McLeod. He stayed with the athletic department for years after coaching the basketball team. Another great guy. He was also a Colonel in the Marine Reserves where I was his radio operator .... and got to know him fairly well.... I was an OU student and avid basketball fan. Anyway, that’s the story I got from Bob.

Great story! Two things to add. One, Georgia Tech was NEVER a higher profile school than OU. Bobby Cremins built the program from scratch, arriving only one year prior to Mark Price. I don't think they had ever been to the NCAA Tournament prior to Cremins - which made Price's decision a bit of a head-scratcher. However, you are correct in that he never seriously considered OU.

Two, I am paraphrasing slightly, but this is what Denny Price said after Brent Price transferred to OU: "Maybe now people can believe me when I say that I never held any grudges toward my alma mater."

Awesome stuff Coolm, Usedtobe1 and Waymanfan. Thanks for your memories and some history.

I looked up Brent's senior year at OU in 91-92. He put up 18.7 pt, 3.7 reb, 6.2 assist, and 2.7 steals. Not to shabby.

Shows my depth about OU basketball history but I don't think I've ever heard the story about Lester Lane. How unfortunate for his family and everyone around the program. How do you think Lester would have done at OU?
Looking back do you think Denny should have been named head coach? I would assume we would have had a better chance with both Mark and Brent later on? Did Joe Ramsey do a good job?

Bob "Go-Go" Stevens sounds like a one of kind guy as well. The utilization of "Go-Go!" fits both coaching and the Marines so that transition went smooth for him I bet.

I agree that Tech wasn't better than OU. But I disagree about it being a head scratcher. He really liked Cremins and Cremins worked his tail off recruiting him.
