Neal is out performing Clark. He got more minutes today and crushed him in the box score. You guys had pretty much written off Tyler Neal. I don't know what the future holds but right now I would say Tyler Neal is performing better than Cameron Clark.
 
I agree to a point StatGeek, but Clark showed no improvement today, while Neal had one of his better games. Clark will have his moments throughout the year, but he has not progressed in two years....he's going to have to show me something soon.
 
Not so fast my friend, guess who got beat defensively several times off the drive: :neal

Cam will not lose minutes to Tyler Neal imo.

No, he's not. You are wrong. Stop being foolish. Through the first game and two exhibitions...
Tyler: 26 points, 14 rebound, 4 turnovers, 1 block, 0 assists, 0 steals
Clark: 12 points, 15 rebounds, 2 turnovers, 1 block, 6 assists, 3 steals

Tyler is clearly beating Cameron in points scored, but that's it. Cameron gets the positives in the other four categories. Tyler should have more rebounds than Clark as his minutes have been in the post, he should also have less turnovers as Cameron spends more time on the wing handling the ball.

So in conclusion Tyler is a better shooter and Cameron is better at everything else. Also, don't use minutes in these games as a measure of who's better. By the same logic, Tyler is better than Romero as he got more minutes at the position they both play.

Agree Big Time. No comparison night in night out Neal to Clark.
 
It seems to me Tyler Neal is playing a lot better than Clark. Rebounding is effectively even. He is scoring way more points and shooting at a much higher percentage. A missed shot is somewhat similar to a turn over in that more times than not it results in a defensive rebound.

I hope to see both guys have a good season but I find it interesting to see Neal having the stronger start. The vast majority of people on this board seemed to be of the opinion he was not going to play much this year. After three games that certainly doesn't appear to be the case. Based on these three games, Neal looks like he is going to have his best year yet as a Sooner.

this is against terrible teams. once we start to play more athletic defenders neal wont be scoring much at all.
I also think the freshman will struggle some once we get into playing teams that are actually athletic.
 
History would not support that statement. His high scoring game as a sophomore was against Arkansas. His high scoring game as a freshman was against Virginia. He has had productive games against Big XII competition.

Neal is a pretty good athlete. He has a big vertical, he is pretty quick and has good overall coordination. I am not sure why you think he isn't a good athlete. I am hoping he has a good season.
 
I don't worry about Neal's scoring against better talent, I worry about his defense. He is fine when we're matched up against teams like Washburn/UCO/LA-Monroe, but do you really want to see Neal and Fitz on the court for half the game against teams like KU, UT, or Baylor? I don't think I do. Neal looks to be playing good ball right now, but he also had a pretty good stretch of games last year, only to disappear once the Big 12 games started. THAT, is still the question to be answered.....how he'll do against Big 12 talent.

And why are we comparing these guys? They aren't in competition with each other for minutes this year. Cam is a 3. Neal is a 4. I don't think either has played the other position for one minute this year.
 
Cameron Clark = OU's Sefolosha. His defensive ability is something we need. He'll have good scoring games and bad scoring games...but overall his defense is crucial.

I am not really comparing them as much as simply commenting that Neal is producing better than Cam at this point in the season. I find it interesting because many had written him off as a guy that wouldn't get much pt this season. Neal has played well against Texas in the past (at least in terms of production - I don't really recall his defense). He has scored 8+ against several Big XII teams, including Texas, OSU, Missouri and ISU. I am hoping he can become a guy that can consistently give OU an offensive boost in Big XII play.
 
I guess I just don't think we'll need the offensive boost from Neal this year, as much as maybe we did last year. We have a ton of offensive weapons this season. LK won't have to play Neal simply to get his shot on the floor, IF his defense or rebounding isn't getting it done.

And that is really the million dollar question.....will Neal be able to defend and rebound enough, from the 4 spot, against quality competition, to command minutes? I don't know.
 
Neal v Clark is really a silly debate.
Neal's a 4 now.
Clark's a 3.
So it's Clark v Pledger v Hield for minutes.
and
Neal's minutes are really going to be dependent upon foul trouble for
Fitz/Osby/M'Baye

Exactly.

I do think that Clark could play some time at the 4 in spot minutes against smaller, athletic teams.

Tyler Neal has got to get better on defense. I watched him get beat off the dribble three different times for lay ups. It doesn't do you any good if you score 6 but let your man score 8...
