I have been one of Tyler's biggest critics the past two seasons. With that confession out of the way, I think it's only right that I give it up to him for the way he played in tonight's game. 12 points, 8 rebounds (4 on the offensive boards) and 1 block is a nice outing coming off of the bench. But that's only half of the story. Tyler was also solid on defense.

I'm encouraged by his performance tonight. It gives me hope that he can more than hold his own in a reserve role this season.

Well done, TN! :clap

It looks like he's put more of a focus on driving to the rim this year. So far, so good.
:neal:clap

He had to give us some big minutes with Cam in foul trouble and he stepped up. I was very encouraged by his play.

He's putting in maximum effort, showing some good moves (especially on the play he didn't even finish going to the hoop). Proud of his progress.

Nice post, Ada. I just sang Neal's praises in another thread, so I'll not repeat myself here, but suffice to say, I was very impressed with his contribution tonight.

Right there with you. Really good showing from him tonight.

His best game as a sooner. Hopefully he can do that more this year but I find it hard to believe the light took this Lin to turn on

Best athlete on the team according to the players. I am hoping he shows us what they have apparently seen.

Me too! He played great tonight and looks like he can make a significant contribution this year.

I have always thought Neal was better on defense than the general opinion. I have watched him closely when he is in the game and while he is not at the Hield or Couzins level he seemed to be solid. I have been a high school coach so I am not totally clueless about defense.

It seemed that Neal being a bad defensive player was pre-ordained. And every defensive lapse was magnified.

I think that it was significant that he was the guy off the bench to replace Clark when he got into foul trouble.

He definitely looked more relaxed, athletic and especially confident. He made a few good moves to the rim too and didn't finish. Hope we get to see why he's deemed the best dunker on the team by his peers.

Do you think he has a good looking shot? I have always felt he did but it just wouldn't fall last year. I think if his shot will fall he could be a very solid bench player. He shot .338 from 3 point range a sophomore and even with the horrible season he had last year he is still above .300 for his career. If he could shoot .338 this year, I think the can have a really good season.

I'm a little surprised at how his shots bounce off a lot. Good shooters usually have more touch on the ball and even the ones that hit the rim don't bounce away as hard as Neal's. Yet he is supposed to be a good outside shooter. Maybe he is playing a little tight and hoping his shots go in rather than being confident.

His moves to the rim are his greatest areas of improvement. If he can get the outside shot going he could be helpful. His rebounding has improved as well. It seems like the stories about Neal indicate that he may not have worked as much to improve himself in prior years as he has this year.

tyler is very very athletic and he is going to be quicker than most of the 4's guarding him .. he needs to continue to attack the rim .. and then shoot jumpers when he is open he has a chance to be very good for us off the bench ..

I agree that he looked much more relaxed and confident. I was very happy for him. I know he had to be pleased.

I've heard on telecast that he's voted most athletic by teammates, AND best dunker on the team. I love his play, but I'm not seeing the athleticism either. I don't know what I'm missing. He doesn't seem to be able to jump out of the gym, like people are saying. I see Buddy and Cam as being great athletes, but I'm not seeing what others are saying about Tyler. Somebody help me understand.
