UCLA beats #11 Utah

Hopefully they can go on a streak of 5/6 wins--maybe we can too. Creighton and Washington keep continuing to disappoint. I'm not gloating over those losses in this post it's just sad that since they've both beaten us, they have both been way under .500 after.

Its about time one of our non conference opponents did something right. Seems like everyone outside of Wisconsin & Tulsa has fallen off the earth after we played them, especially the teams we lost too as Lax pointed out (Creighton, Wash).

UCLA is such an interesting deal, to me. They have the history. They've had recent (w/in last 10 years) success. They have the location. They have the money. They've got beautiful facilities. Why aren't they a top 10 team EVERY year?! I just don't get it. It's UCLA. If I was a top recruit, they'd most likely be on my short list of places to go play...

Creighton has had a terrible run, there's no doubt. But they did just upset St. John's to snap their nine-game losing streak.

I'm hoping to update my OOC thread tomorrow morning.

They're NEVER on TV.

And most of the top HS basketball talent is found between the east coast and Texas.

Not a whole lot of top east coast kids want to go all the way out to LA.

And the top HS kids who ARE from Cali, are getting picked off. Arizona, Kentucky, and UNC have all landed Mcd's All Americans from Cali in the last 5 years.

Alford only in his 2nd year after Howland did his best to drive the program into the ground. Lots of top under class talent left to NBA after last season, which was a 28-9, sweet 16 year. This is a rebuilding season. UCLA has fairly stringent academic standards and has not lowered them for athletes like other UC schools (see Marshawn Lynch)

My expectation is that Alford can get some high quality 4 year players in and move to challenge UA in the coming years. The program needs some continuity of talent
