Unicorns and rainbows

How do you know who I have met and who I have not? Again, sac up and point out where I am wrong. I have met Tubbs, Sampson, Kellen, Kline, Betts, Capel, Goodman and a whole other host of coaches. Give me a break.

Until you actually respond to the lack of things this team does well and the lack of credentials on this coaching staff I am through with you.

And because you've met them, you certainly know their ability as a coach, right? I mean, after all, all it takes to determine that is a quick conversation...

Nick I would not waste your breath. Hoops11 cannot only deduct who I know, how long I have talked to someone, my ability to decipher if someone is a quality coach from a conversation, he can also deduct that you can't have an opinion on basketball because you have an opinion on football.

Unreal.

The only thing I find weird about this thread is that it appears that Goodman is being singled out as the culprit for all our ills. Guess every team needs a scapegoat but the selection of Goodman as that scapegoat is hilarious.

Weird.

You know who my scapegoat is, Alex Brown (cuz why not you know)?

mine is big times red wig

Sam, by no means is Goodman the scapegoat. His hiring is only a reflection that either or both...

capel has no clue what it takes to win in the big12 without Bg
And/or
Joe could care less about the state of ball

I have no personal issues with Brian at all. The problem is not him the individual. He is only a small part of the many things top to bottom that are wrong with this program under Capels watch.

who's fault is it to have a 6'6 undersize guard defending and rebound against a 6'9 athletic post due to going small?

I agree that Cade couldn't do anything on the defensive end and that was beyond his control.

However, Cade was the bane of our existence on offense. So many bad passes. so many missed opportunities for good looks, struggled from the foul line, and had a horrible shooting game but still continued to force his shot.

I can't wait for Cade to be gone from this program.

Let it out, htown. Let it out. You're probably only going to get about 14 more opportunities to do so this year. :)

By his standards none of us should have called John Blake the bad coach he was 12 years ago. Look the facts are fairly clear. And I think us not seeing big time fans like FaithfulSooner is pretty clear evidence we just aren't as good as we should be. I wouldn't be too pissed if I thought our problems were talent. But I think we have a two pronged problem going on. The talent is bad I agree but the way the talent is being used is also very poor.

Next year when he is gone and replaced by Osby/Goff we will win 20 games.

Sorry, spit out my coffee and shorted out my keyboard when I read this. Seriously, 20 games with a player that averaged under 5 points and 3 rebounds a game for MSst and a Junior college player that will need time to acclimate to the Div. I.
Not sure what you are drinking or smokin', but I want some of that!

This has been a staple for players since Capel has been here. He honestly believes that not only can you "Shoot" yourself out of a slump (a given good shooters will eventually find their shot again), but you can do it within the confines of a single game (unlikely in this situation pull in the reins on the shooter and let them fire another day). He has always allowed players to shoot, no matter the circumstances. Good shooter in practice and the previous 3 games, but currently 1-12 in the first half of the next game, continue to shoot, thats Capels' philosophy. It can be infuriating to watch sometimes.

What I saw was everytime OU would get close our only senior would throw up a brick, turn the ball over or give up an offensive rebound.

We have a huge weak link and blame the coach instead of him. Next year when he is gone and replaced by Osby/Goff we will win 20 games.

Granted Cade had a horrible night, but before you gather up the brush to burn him at the stake, remember there are a few games this year we would not have won if not for him. Also, he was not that much worse than Pledger. Pledger made a couple threes, but he did miss 7 to Cades 5 and Cade did at least have 2 assists and 2 steals (to his 2 turnovers). Pledger had 0, 0, and 0 in these categories. I would say they were about a wash.

C. Davis 39 1-10 0-5 5-9 0 4 2 2 2 0 2 7
S. Pledger 34 3-10 2-9 5-6 0 2 0 0 0 0 4 13

In this game no one contributed in a positive way. Not just Cade, this one belongs to the whole team and coaching staff.

People can blame talent all they want. But I think coaching isn't really working well with the players either.

What talent? The only true talented player I see out there on the court if Clark. Fitz plays hard and so does Cade, but they are not great talents. Pledger is schizo. Blair is awful. He runs the point as good as my 6 year old does in our driveway. How many times does the opposing team steal the ball from him during a game as he brings it up the court? Washington is okay. And Nick Thompson is AWFUL and probably should be playing D-3 ball somewhere.

I will say Osby is really good and will be great next year. This year is a wash. Next year with Clark and Osby will be better. But that still isn't enough. Need 2 or 3 more guys that can score. One of those that are really really good. Without that, we are stuck being worst than Nebraska. And that is bad.

I'm trying to figure out how I can be this upset over our season when I knew going in that we weren't going to be world beaters. Somehow I let my expectations get away from me after our first three games. Still, last season and this season are the hardest it's ever been for me to watch OU basketball. :facepalm

I'm not arguing anything about Stoops or Capel. I'm simply pointing out that your judgment of coaching ability is nothing more than an uninformed guess, nothing more.

Is yours not simply support the guy in crimson? You seem to attack the person rather than the opinion and I would say that is because you have no support for your belief that Jeff Capel is doing a good job.

Support Jeff Capel without pointing to Blake Griffins sophomore season. It is not that Capel deserves zero credit for that season. Rather it is the rational belief he is not likely to have Blake Griffin talent on the team very often. Heck he did last season and look how that turned out

I think we need to play Newell and Neal most of the time and see what they can do. Get them ready for the future. I still don't know enough about either of those. But the guys that are playing a lot like Pledger, and Blair, I've seen enough to know they can't defend that well and that Blair can't handle pressure at all. And Pledger can't really do his main job in shooting the ball. He's worse than Cade.

I'm parking right here with you. Anyone who can't see the void of talent that this group has, obviously doesn't know talent evaluation, IMO. I like these kids, and I would endure 10 seasons of this in favor of a bunch of me 1st wanna be gangstas like we had last yr. This team has less talent than any Sooner team that I have seen since the late 70's. We have no one at the point, and no one besides CJ who has a semblence of ability to play post defense. Any team using Fitz to guard the other teams #1 inside scoring option is going to get killed.

College hoops is guard dominated, and we have none right now. Couple that with no inside presence on defense, and you get average centers who thrive against us.....
