4 top ten kids from Texas.
Will OU sign any of them?

Dungee has "fallen" a bit.

With Texas having plenty if great players, it just makes sense that our coaches should spend the vast majority of the time recruiting there.

I suspect Dungee has fallen some because she doesn't seem to have the speed/quickness of some other similar players.

That could be true. I saw her three times and it wasn't her offense that was weak, it was her defense. She doesn't have what I call "quick feet". She's young and has plenty of time to improve her foot work. Over all I really like her, she just needs to work on her weaknesses to become an excellent all around player. I have no doubt by her Senior year she will be every thing we expect of her.

She should improve if she makes the U17 team. I think the trials are this or next week.

Dungee loves to play basketball. She loves to practice and improve. But what I think gets Dungee noticed is, she has a high basketball IQ. Some kids just know how to play the game and I think she is in that category.

Wow had no idea that Crystal Dangerfield was ranked that high, Hopefully the OU staff is keeping an eye on her. I see they list Dungee as a wing vs a combo guard like espn calls her. Here they have her listed as a 5'9 wing, but we've seen her listed as a 5'10-5'11 2 guard other places. I was thinking her game was like Marcus Smart(OSU).

Assuming those four top ten kids would be ranked 1,2,3,and 4 in Texas and the question is will OUsign any? Let's compare that to football 2014 (hard to compare, I know.)

Bob Stoops recruits Texas and according to Rivals the highest rated football recruit he got out of Texas in 2014 was #41. He missed on the top 40 kids out of Texas.

I know, apples and oranges but still.

Banjo, but bob signed 2 top ten kids from California. Quick and Mixon
Signed 2 top 5 kids from Arizona. Andrews and Curtis
And he signed the top kid from Oklahoma. Parker.

And he signed Samaje Perrine #19 player in Texas, not 41 according to Rivals.

It's not an Apple to Oranges. It's a diamonds v carbon discussion.
The elite talent pool is women's hoops is extremely finite. It's established.
The talent gap is huge in women's hoops. The top kids are so much better than
their lesser ranked counterparts.
You either get the top kids or you don't get to the final four.
It's not like football at all.
There are no Lane Johnson's or Blake Bortles in women's hoops.
There are no Tim Duncan's in Women's hoops either.
Or Damien Lillard's to use a more recent example.

We know that Pam travels to several states. Sherri travels too. We know Chad has been to Texas. Not sure Jan has been outside of Oklahoma. We have picked up some commitments from Pam's work as well as some from Oklahoma. It seems Texas is the state that has several really good players (and a few elite ones) almost every year and we are not getting any of their best players. My question is, do we have our best recruiter(s) working Texas? If Chad isn't able to build relationships with their elite players, perhaps Pam or Jan could. What percentage of her time is Sherri spending in Texas? If Sherri isn't willing to make changes to her staff, she could at least shake things up a bit by sending others across the river to recruit. If a plan isn't working, try something different. You shouldn't expect different results doing the same thing over and over.

If we can get Cox and Mulkey, we have a good chance for a NC. If Texas gets them, we can kiss away any chances of a NC in the foreseeable future. IMHO.

Atlanta, my point is that OU can't simply go shopping in Texas any more like it used to. When Barry was recruiting he could usually do the vast majority of his recruiting in Texas, Bob can't. I'm not convinced Sherri can either.

As far as Texas recruiting it is more carbon and carbon.

Banjo,
Then without sustained success signing top 30 kids from Florida or California, OU's never getting back to a Final Four on instate talent alone.

That's the question. I think one thing that I am sure I would do is start the camps going again.

I think the first step is planning. What do we need.

Step two is identifying targets to fulfill those needs as well as identifying plan B targets

Step three is qualifying those targets. Do they fit academically etc. Are they open to coming to OU or are they disinterested or committed to another school.

Step four is cultivating the targets that we have qualified. Bringing them to campus. Providing opportunities for them to get to know us.

Step five is soliciting them. Offering the targets we want.

Finally, step six is closing.

The process is easy to understand, it's execution is more complicated.

Very good thoughts! It seems we are able to get visits from some top 30 players but seldom get visits from top 10 players. If we are not able to get visits from the elite players, it seems probably that we aren't developing relationships with those recruits. So, the question is obviously why? Is it the recruiters not doing a good job? Is OU now looked down upon among recruits for some reason since Courtney and DRob came? How is Texas, S. Carolina, and UCLA's recruiting taking off when ours is not?

Lon recently got a commitment from a transfer (Thomas) from Houston. Thomas said he had developed a close relationship with assistant Lou Hill and credited that with his interest in OU.

I just have to wonder if our assistants are great at developing those relationships while the assistants at S. Carolina, Texas, and UCLA obviously are.

Aston has been recruiting starting at the middle school level. She has already offered several including Niah Green the no. 1 player in 7th grade. Yes, 7th grade but she looks like a freshmen in high school--6ft girl who has handles and can shoot the ball. I'm sure some have heard of her already. She's from the Allen, TX area. Her game is like the N. Carolina girl who left the Tar heels.

I don't know that it is the assistants fault. Sherri is running these prospects through too fine a mesh filter before she considers basketball ability.

I'm not suggesting outlaws and thugs. I am suggesting that if the objective is to win basketball games, then that should be the focus. Cast just a little wider net.

garyeb2,
Okay I'll bite.
How wide are the non basketball filters?? How many kids are they eliminating in your opinion?
