Mac, you are correct. Sherri has not taken advantage of the final four appearances the way one would expect.
If Geno and his staff came to OU, we would be competing for a national championship within 5 years. Hire Dawn Staley and her staff at OU and our recruiting would improve significantly (of course, there are some who don't want to admit this is true). Our staff just hasn't been on that same level the last few years.
Billy Tubbs brought some really good players to OU and he should have won a national championship. Kelvin brought some good players but he left us with a mess. Jeff Capel brought some good players but overall he was bad for the program. Kruger is doing a good job and he could put together a really good team in another 1-3 years. Keep in mind this program saw a lot of problems a few years before he came so I wouldn't even describe the program as stable, much less good before his arrival so he had a lot of work to do and I've been impressed so far by what he has working in a short time.
What this all tells us is, who is doing the coaching and recruiting matters greatly. Our failure to recruit top 10 players has nothing to do with the men's basketball program, academics, Norman, religion, politics, the weather, or any other silly excuse. It has everything with building relationships with recruits. When we improve in that area, improvement in recruiting will follow shortly.
