UT better at every position - Not even close

Well I sat through the game on my couch and thought, WOW Texas is really, really good and OU is young and without much star talent. Of course we already knew that. The OU team does play hard and you see signs of this team getting better. I thought Capel had them coached up pretty good and like others have stated, OU did not give up. Cam has hit a wall, but the talent is there, Balby made Carl Blair look silly, and Texas ran big bodies at Fitzgerald for the entire game. Cade Davis is what we thought he was, a decent player, but not a big time starter, and Pledger needs to be more aggressive. Neal played ok, but he is not strong enough yet to make a difference, CJ Washington is a role player, and Newell is a left or right forearm away from a foul everytime he touches the ball.

You can only hope that Osby is the real deal, but the jury is out in my opinion on that. Fitzgerald could be a really solid Big 12 Power Forward if he only had some help. Goff needs to be good as well! OU is in serious need of help at the point and a solid two guard (Pledger may be that guy, but like I said he needs to stay aggressive! You are not going to make every shot!) Cam, I truly believe will blossom into a star - he has 2nd team all Big 12 talent, but he needs to get it together between the ears and get bigger. Some of the pieces are in place, this team is really young. But that being said, it is in need of several more pieces.

I have often called for Capels job, but I think he is done a really good job this year. Maybe the best job since he has been here! He has no one that is just WOW, but he has some solid kids! Capel is good with me for now.

As this post reads "RE: UT better at every position - Not even close", that could not have been stated any better! Texas is final four material, they are really solid! I hate any shade of orange!

So it appears most of you are okay with the fact Capel doesn't have a player on the roster that is good enough to play for UT this year. This was the biggest mismatch I have ever witnessed by a OU team. UT could have whipped us by 30 in Norman if they wanted to.

Did you see Kevin Durant? He wouldn't even clap he felt so bad for OU. Not sure Barnes ever raised his voice louded than my 90 year old grandmother.

Two players are not going to change the outcome next year.

I think alot of us need to visit Mr.Websters dictionary & look up the word "mediocrity".Go Sooners!!!!!!!!!

Not one player on the OU team could make the 12 man roster of UT. And oh bye the way neither could our coach.
Clark, Fitz, Davis are all better than the bottom half of Texas roster.

Not to impressed with Gary Johnson.

Hasn't the Wangmere guy been there forever?

Jai Lucus looks like a glorified walk on with his role on the team.

Matt Hill was a slightly bigger stiff than the one he replaced.

More signs for made for Jacovan Brown, thn what his output was.

Yeah, Texas is much better, but no sense in using bombastic language and saying that "not one player" could be on Texas' roster. That's simply ridiculous.

It doesn't matter who we lose to if we lose the vultures will show up here and take their opportunity to rip Capel. We could lose to the Thunder and they would be here promptly saying "Faarr eeem!!!"

Very sad but very true!

Agreed, they have enough talent.

Not to impressed with Gary Johnson.

I don't know how you couldn't be impressed with a guy who was highly recruited out of Houston and has put is ego on the back burner for some freshman and sophomores. Johnson is a winner and would kill to have someone like him on our team. He can operate out to 15 feet and is a GREAT defender.

Hasn't the Wangmere guy been there forever?

Yes, he redshirted last year.

Jai Lucus looks like a glorified walk on with his role on the team.

I know we've beat this one into the ground, really glad we chased Lucas until the end instead of signing Roberson.

Matt Hill was a slightly bigger stiff than the one he replaced.

He knows his role, play defense and grab a few boards...OU could use his size. I am biased since I have hung out with him a few times in Austin, really nice guy. Always tell his girlfriend to tell him to get some bigger shorts, he looks goofy out there.

More signs for made for Jacovan Brown, thn what his output was.

He basically won the game for them at KU...his output is hot and cold.

Speaking of Hill doesn't Texas just have an endless supply of 6'10 or so white guys with a different one being a contributor each year? Wouldn't mind having that type of size on tap to be honest.

Matt is from Nebraska, I asked him why he didn't stay home and play for Sadler. His response was 1.) I'd rather win in limited minutes than be a multi-year starter for the and lose as a Husker, 2.) Austin is really awesome.

Haven't you heard: Venables can't coach defense, Galloway sucks as a baseball coach, Stoops should be fired for playing Landry, Kevin Wilson has NEVER called a good offensive game, Sherri Coale can't beat Uconn and Tenn...... blah, blah, blah. Some of the same posters are bored with football season being over, so they are trying to turn this into Owen Field West.:facepalm:facepalm

Anyone in their right mind knows that Barnes and other Big 12 coaches would take Cade, Fitz, Cam, and probably Pledger.

I honestly don't think Barnes would take Fitz...not because he's isn't talented, just doesn't fit their system.

I disagree. Not many coaches are turning down a guy who can score on the block, and can also step out and hit the mid range jumper..... Everyone is caught up on texas' starting 5 and 1st 2 or 3 subs. The original poster said that no Sooner could play on this Tx team. Has anyone even seen Texas' 11th and 12th man play?? Do you really think that Fitz couldn't replace those guys??

Thought we had established that the original post was very flawed. I am just comparing Fitz to their posts...not going to build a comparison between Fitz and Melchionni who sits on the end of their bench. Unless you're stating that Fitz would take a guard's spot, then yeah, I don't think he would be on Texas' roster...due to their system. That's not a knock on Fitz, just a different style which fits his skill set.

You could mention Chapman, but until this year when Barnes has tightened his rotation, Chapman was getting regular mintues. He's played in 80+ games in his career. Barnes always wants his post players on the bench with length who can rebound, Fitz doens't fit that category.

Good point Camp, but I think that Fitz could replace the last of the subs, even the posts. Balbay does not fit what Barnes has had in the past at the PG position. He usually has PG's that can score, like Ford, and the little kid who recently went pro( name escapes me), along with Gibson, all super fast posts who could light it up from deep. Balbay is not the same type of PG, but he fits in because he can play. Who knows if Fitz could rebound better from the 4? He is being asked to defend 5's on OUr team. He is the only big body in the line-up. If he played for Tx, he wouldn't be asked to block out 7 footers all game.

Fitz can flat out score. I agree that he is a defensive liability, but he is also playing out of position.

Good point on Balbay, I don't know what spurned Barnes decision to change that aspect but it's worked. Ford was overrated as a shooter, he did most of his damage 15ft and in, Boobie was a bomber and couldn't get to the rack, Augustin did it all, and Avery Bradley we didn't get a real good feel on (he had a knack for being a poor man's Augustine on offense, but an elite defender). I would counter that Barnes has had all types of PGs in his time, PGs who played off the ball (Gibson) and who dominated the ball (Ford). He even tried to run AJ Abrams at point which was a disaster. Dogus is such a good defender, he is a completely different element.

I would concede that Fitz would be on the roster if Barnes was planning on playing him NEXT year, but for the 2010-11 Longhorns, I just don't see what he would add. They don't need his offense.

Yeah... Gotta love it when the vultures come circling around after the team struggles.

Can't argue with your points. I guess that its all subjective, but its hard to argue with what you said......:clap

If you are looking for a player off OU to be a star for Texas, no there would not be based on Texas Team. But you cannot tell me that Barnes would not was someone like Cade Davis who has been in his program for 4 years on that team. Not saying he would play a bunch, but every coach wants juniors and seniors who have been with the program that have some skills and will work hard when called upon.

I also think Fitz, Clark would be taken by texas as I refer to good players that would stay with the program.

Perhaps the most honest and fair assessment of this team posted in a long time.
