Was Tech game a mirage? Or a sign of things to come?

That game was against a team who felt they had made their season with the ISU win. We got them at the perfect time but I still think it was a nice pounding and good tune up for the back end run. The question I pose to you guys is- Do you see this continuing into bedlam and beyond? Or is this just a mirage and a one game domination only to fall back to the subpar play we'd seen before That?

Also what do you expect to see in Stillwater tomorrow?

I don't think we have seen subpar play, I think we have seen inconsistent play. If you think about Washington, Creighton and KU, OU just didn't compete for one half of the game. The KSU and Baylor games were not much different. I didn't think OU played well in the first half of both games and then failed to close the games when they had an opportunity. I think Wisconsin is probably a bit better than OU. WVU was definitely a subpar effort.

I hope the guys have gotten a wake up call and will play hard for 40 minutes for the rest of the season. I don't expect them to win all their games but I hope they can go 7-3 or better. Tomorrow is a big game. It would be really nice for OU to win.

Losing to Baylor and Kansas on the road does not constitute subpar play. It's a tough conference and winning road games against tournament teams is really difficult.

People need to come down off the ledge.

There's really no way to know what to expect from these Sooners from one game to the next. But the win over Tech (no matter what you might think of Tech) clearly shows this team is capable of dominating when the defensive effort is there and the offense starts clicking as a result.

I'm cautiously optimistic that what we saw from the Sooners Wednesday night will be the type of product we'll see the rest of the season.

Edit: I just saw chuckb's post and I agree with his observations.

I think Wednesday night was a product of OU really needing a win and tech coming off a big win at home where they probably played well above their norm.
Tech is a young team that hasn't won this year at all outside lubbock. Sometimes once momentum starts to roll a young and poor shooting team team like tech just gets avalanched..tech was only shooting like 35% on the year AFTER the Iowa st game
I think what you can read into this game is that OU can dominate especially defensively at times...other times they look ordinary..okie state is 10-1 this year at home..a guy like booker could be huge tomorrow..had 15 last year in Stillwater..I expect a close game..something OU has not fared well in this year..it's going to take a very mentally disciplined approach to win there tomorrow

I asked coach Hill at meal before Tech game why we were so tight late in games and he said that they think guys were worn out and they needed to get more from their bench. Then the Tech game started and players were rotating off the bench all game with great results!

Not on any ledge. And I do think for what we THOUGHT this team would be (top 10 possible elite 8 team) you do have to say this has been subpar play. I feel this team has the talent AND DEFINITELY the experience that should not have lost to Baylor(horrible close to game) should have ATLEAST been competitive against @WV and NEVER should have lost to K-state at home...good team or not. Inconsistent play IS subpar play. I'm not going game to game saying "@texas was subpar play" I'm saying the season as a WHOLE has been subpar in the fact of their inconsistency for a team that some picked to win the Big 12 and even go to the Final Four. If you can't say that this team has been subpar in the season as a whole when losing games like Creghton, Washington, Kstate @ home, being stomped by WV, and losing at Baylor in a collapse in the final minutes. Then I don't want to see what your definition of subpar would be. This hasn't been a "great" start, a "good" start, or a "bad" start....it's been a subpar first half of the year. There's no reason for anyone to be on a ledge but 13-7 is, without question, a subpar start to a schedule. Do I think losses happen? Of course...even for great teams(i.e. Kansas-temple). So a 15-5 woulda been a good start and a 16-4 woulda been great and a 17-3 woulda been AMAZING. But 13-7 with more disappointing losses then understandable ones qualifies for subpar. Still think this team does damage but at this point in the season they have been subpar.

Can't take much away from it... Tech plays about 8 guys and six of them are in their first year, and 7 of them are freshman.

I agree with your premise that tech is pretty bad and probably the worst in the conf.

Just FYI, their official website only has 5 fr listed. I saw a few players who started at times or played significant minutes from last season..onwuasor, gotcher, turner...

Odiase is a nice prospect, too, but he's a fr.

This tech team isn't the worst one to play in the big12, and OU held them to a record low so I think that is definitely something to take away.

Hopefully, it just means we know how to play two halves now. The only thing setting OU back is inconsistent play (bad 1st or 2nd half) and then bad offense in final minutes of close games.

Like I said...this to me is subpar play...they are better then this and everyone expects better...just subpar...all the way around. Need to come out and grab them by their hind parts in the second half here.
