2 years ago the coaches thought they'd have Trae & McGusty to go w James, Odomes, Manek, & Doolittle. After last year -- Trae being so much better than expected & McGusty being so much worse -- they had to patch it together with duct tape & rubber bands. The fact that they were able to do that & get a team that most here even thought would be sub .500 back to the tournament is a credit to the coaches & the team's leaders.
When you look at those who didn't make the tournament like Texas, TCU, Alabama, NC St, Clemson, Notre Dame, Arizona, & other similar Power 5 teams (+ really good non-power 5 schools like Creighton & Wichita St.), it's really nice to hang another banner, especially in a rebuilding year.

Lose the leading scorer and assist man in the nation, picked to miss the tourney in almost every national publication, essentially play the last two months without your starting center, not have a single guy on first or second team all conference ... yet make the field again. Yeah, that Kruger guy clearly doesn't know what he is doing. Somehow, he has made two straight appearances without Buddy! Although we all know they only made it because of ratings ... the committee knows more people will watch us since Trae used to go to OU.
Everything is political and about money at least in part. If anyone thinks OU made the tournament last year without Trae's popularity being discussed in some form or fashion they are fooling themselves.
All things being equal, team A has a player like Trae and team B does not, who do you think gets the benefit of the doubt? The bottom line is getting eyeballs on the TV.
The committee does their best every year to make the tournament the best competition AND story they can. How many times have we seen a matchup between a former coach of Directional U now playing his former team in the tournament? The committee still puts Duke and Kentucky in a possible high drama position if both teams regular seasons have warranted it.
There is no doubt Trae was the elephant in the room last year.
this is not remotly true
solid stat pulled from the paper today
only 5 teams have made the last 7 tourneys Duke UNC Kansas Michigan State and Nova
only 13 power conf teams including OU have made 6 of the last 7
rare company
ole miss by the way has made the dance 8 times ...... ever
NORMAN — Oklahoma’s Miles Reynolds exploded out of his seat after learning the news inside the Lloyd Noble Center.
Reynolds transferred to OU from Pacific for one final shot at playing in an NCAA Tournament and, on Sunday, his dream came true.
“Just for someone who’s been in college as long as he has and not having the opportunity to ever participate in March Madness, I know this was a huge moment for him,” Kristian Doolittle said with a laugh. “He’ll probably never forget this moment.”
The Sooners didn’t squeak into the 68-team field. They were comfortably planted as a No. 9 seed by the NCAA Tournament selection committee, which revealed the bracket on Sunday night.
OU will face No. 8 Ole Miss at 11:40 a.m. Friday in Columbia, South Carolina. The survivor moves on to face No. 1 Virginia or No. 16 Gardner-Webb on Sunday.
Why Oklahoma will win an NCAA Tournament game
New blood: Oklahoma muscled through 19 games against tough Big 12 competition, where familiarity reigns supreme. Now it gets an opportunity to spend four days preparing for a new opponent. Remember, OU was 12-1 in nonconference games this season.
Why Oklahoma won’t win an NCAA Tournament game
No inside presence: Oklahoma has struggled all season without McNeace in the lineup. Without an offensive or defensive presence in the paint, look for Ole Miss to try to exploit that matchup early and often.

I know year to year comparisons aren't great, but I do think it's telling that without Young, and a very similar roster to last year (surely nobody is suggesting Calixte or Reynolds added much), we had a very similar record, both OOC and in conference, to last year with Young.
Just something to think about.
Trae was the second shooter on the grassy knoll. Conspiracy theories abound lol.
Well, these two can join me on the Warren Commission. And it's absolutely true.

Well, any column that links to Twitter comments is proof enough for me!
I like the matchup with Ole Miss. They are a guard oriented team that won't overwhelm OU with size and rebounding. I think it is truly a 50/50 game.
I have to disagree that Virginia is a good draw. Obviously any of the one seeds would be tough, but I think Virginia is an exceptionally bad matchup for OU. Put it this way...UVA shoots 40.9% from three as a team. OU doesn't have a single individual player who shoots the 3 that well (Bieniemy is 40.6% on limited shots). And obviously we all know what they can do to a team on the defensive end.
We'll see how it goes, but I think people are putting way too much stock in UVA's prominent failures as a highly seeded team.
