The GM who inks Dwight Howard to a multi-year deal, or the guy who drafts Labissee-what's his name with a top 15 pick?

Right now ESPN has Furkan Korzmaz going at 15, so I'd venture to say gambling on Labissiere might not be the worst move. If somebody gave Howard a multi-year contract averaging in excess of 30M...yeah, there's no defending that move.

hindsight being 20/20, the GM that pays Howard since Skal fell to 28

The Howard hate is foolish. Dude is a hall of famer with some gas left in the tank. He's ended up on a bunch of bad to mediocre teams, which is why he hasn't had much postseason success, aside from singlehandedly carrying an awful Orlando team to the NBA finals.

But he's not worth a max contract. A max contract for Dwight would be an albatross for any NBA team.

Even if he were a HOF'er, you don't pay players for what they did. You pay them for what they will do.

Regardless, the hate is warranted. He's about to leave his third franchise in worse condition than he found them. He could have been such a great player if he weren't so mentally soft.

He is from Atlanta originally-it might be a good fit there, as long as he'll sign on the cheap, relatively.

3 years, 70.5M isn't technically that bad for Howard; worse contracts have been handed out today. I think this plants them firmly in mediocrity for the next three years, but for teams like Atlanta, mediocre probably doesn't sound too bad.

That's been a basic rule of being a sports GM since the beginning of time.

So you think Dirk is worth his new contract going forward? Think Wade is worth the $20-25M/year that he is going to get?

Some of these guys get paid for what they've done, not what they will do.

Have you seen the contracts of guys like Mozgov, Turner, Barnes, etc? Yes, those two guys are both still playing at a high level and earned short contracts around 20M/year. Additionally, the NBA is a business, so putting butts in seats is an asset. They're not being paid for butts that they used to put in seats.
