Help me out with this. Who was the last highly ranked local kid we lost to osu?

Richard Dumas is the only one I can think of. I didn't follow recruiting that much back then but I assume we offered him.
Who am I missing?

There was a guard that went to stoolwater under Paul Hansen. I think we recruited him.

Matt Clark?

Kelvin wanted Joe Adkins REAL bad. He thought he had him too.

Did Billy recruit Byron Houston much?

Was Stevie Clark highly ranked enough to count? Or, in the end, did we not want him? (I know we were after him for a while.)

We didn't lose Stevie. We abandoned that sinking ship well before he ever committed to Ford.

I'm not sure how much OU wanted them, but there were a couple of good OKC-area kids who played for Sutton named Obi Muonelo and Chianti Roberts. I think it was Roberts who bought the nonsense that OSU had a better tradition in hoops than OU.

Obi muonelo for sure. He was a 5* on several recruiting sites.

Billy later admitted that he made a mistake not pushing harder for Byron Houston. He couldn't hide behind hindsight because Houston was a national top 50 player.

While he may have been from another state, we also went head-to-head with the Pokes for Desmond Mason, so I'm sure they've won a few battles against us (think that Adkins guy from the same class was from the Sooner State). What really kept them competitive during the Sutton years was Eddie's amazing ability to nab players who transferred from other schools. Eddie's best team was in the '03-'04 season...shortly after the state produced several top in-state prospects, and OSU struck out on every one.

I laughed at the story Obi Muonelo told, Sutton had turned in Sampson for those improper contacts with Texas high school the kid that Kelvin signed that eventually went to Texas after Capel replaced Kelvin.

Muonelo was quoted in The Oklahoman saying what an honor it was for a coach like Eddie Sutton to be in his living room. Sutton was supposedly banned from off campus recruiting for previous minor violations.

Sutton was a great coach but a total hypocrite.

That's the one I would love for OU to have signed.

I didn't know it was Sutton who turned in Kelvin... and I think the kid who went to Texas was Damion James.

sigh. what would our roster have been?

Scotty reynolds
WW?
Crocker
Damian James
blake?

i'm sure I'm mixing up years for returning players but wasn't James, reynolds and crocker all the same class?

It was James, I couldn't think of his name.

The story I heard was the Sutton knew Sampson was contacting James too early and told him he was going to call the NCAA. Sampson didn't heed the warning and Sutton turned him in.

I'm not taking up for Sampson, just calling Sutton a hypocrite for the cheating he has done over his career.

Agreed Scottie Reynolds is the one that hurts the most. IMO

Thats interesting. Def sounds like a hypocrite. Thanks for sharing that...

Actually, Keith Clark also stuck to his commitment....even though he didn't last long at OU.

Right you are. I was thinking (but didn't specify in my post) of out-of-state recruits (though why I made that distinction, I now have no idea).

I know we've been over this ad nauseam but there's no way Blake ends up on that team. As long as Kelvin Sampson was here Blake Griffin wasn't coming to OU.
