An 11-20 season and the current free fall are unusual for OU basketball. The group on here has thrown blame at Trae Young, Lon Kruger, the assistant coaches, the rest of the team not named Trae Young...

Somebody is at fault... but who is it?

Ultimately it's Lon's fault. He's the one that gets paid to run the program so he's the one responsible for it's results both good and bad.

On the court, it is the fault of the guys around Trae, because they aren't performing. Ultimately, though, that falls on Lon for not recruiting and/or developing well enough.

A lot of people/posters keep saying this but the truth of the matter is, the last 3-4 games especially, Trae has been average to below average and almost regardless of what the other guys do, they won't win a lot of those games without him playing to his ability. Against KU I think 2 if not 3 guys out scored Trae and that will NEVER bode well for this OU team.

I blame myself almost as much as I blame the rest of you.

Yes, Trae has not been playing well. THat's in large part because teams have decided under no circumstances are they going to allow Trae to beat them. And for damn sure no one else on this roster has stepped up and done anything that would threaten a half-way competent team..

Ultimately the head coach is to blame but since he clearly is a good coach, in place, familiar with the existing program then he is a good choice to fix it. Some teams overachieve others underachieve, happens every year, why would you think any program is immune, it is predictable in D1 basketball. Reasons it happened to my Sooners this year, I generally lean toward player leadership/ team chemistry with a dose of talent lacking at some positions. It is not imo x's and o's. I would expect one to three players to move on after the season plus Trae. I really feel Lon did most of the right things but it's difficult to predict how a person reacts when they are not the big dog, do they work harder or grow bitter. Lon brings them in, he needs to avoid mistakes next go round.

Exactly, if the team as a whole started playing better, making shots more consistently, it would result in less pressure (defensively) on Trae...it's just common sense.

I see lots of blame being put on OUhoops.com posters.... :)

Ultimately it's Lon's fault. He evaluates, recruits,& gets these players to sign with the University of Oklahoma. Then along with his assistants they develop & mold these players into a team that fits the style of offense & defense they want to run. There is all kinds of blame to go around, but Lon is the Head Coach & should be with him.Go Sooners!!

It's my fault. I still like Kelvin Sampson.

Unless you have spent sixty years building a superpower like a Duke or Kansas, you tend to have down years. Sometimes, you recruit good athletes that just don't develop as you would anticipate. If you are Kentucky, you recruited one that worked out for each one that didn't. At most good programs, you have down years.

I can see why every player that we have was recruited. They have their moments. Then, I watch a bunch of 6-9 players stand still as a 6-3 player jumps over them to get a rebound, and I see why it isn't working out. I'm not sure that I would like the kid who gets that rebound, but he will win games. It's all he has in life.

I really like Sampson. His problem was keeping players happy (transfers, attitudes)

sampson didnt have a great personality himself. I got along with him alright but he rubbed many people the wrong way.
