Worst Loss under Kruger

This loss blows but it is far from the worst loss.

Texas two years ago was bad but had nothing riding on it. Our guys wanted this bad and that stinky T turned the whole ****ing game upside down!

Two days ago ISU fans wanted to scalp Hoiberg.

I suspect they will again very soon. I don't think either team tonight is going very far. Not many other tournament teams are going to let them do what they did tonight. I also see us bouncing out in a tough and tight game again.

Two points! The Cousins T cost us TWO POINTS.
The whole team let the next 20 consecutive points without us scoring one happen.

You're smarter than that, JBaker. The Cousins technical got the crowd fired up and that's when ISU started their run. The ISU faithful had been a non factor to that point. All it took from there is a Niang score, followed by an OU turnover on the other end, and a ISU three. ISU fed off of the crowd and did what they were capable of doing all along, score in bunches.

Cousins was not to blame for the loss. But the uncalled for technical he received turned the momentum in ISU's favor. It was a dumb thing for him to do, especially when OU had the Cyclones on the ropes until the fifteen minutes mark.

This reminded me very much of the Creighton game, in that after we got our big lead, we got punched in the mouth, figuratively speaking (wasn't there a technical in the Creighton game, too?), and we never really recovered. The "punch" in the Creighton game was just five or six quick points, if I recall correctly, but at the time, I was immediately concerned. I hoped I was wrong, but I strongly sensed we were in trouble.

Those eight quick points following Isaiah's technical tonight felt very much the same. They woke up the crowd, they revved up the Cyclones, and we seemed rattled for much of the rest of the game.

No loss is on a single player, of course, and I'm disappointed in the whole team, but Cousins opened the door for ISU to mount that comeback. I don't think we lose the game if it weren't for those eight points over a, what, 45-second span? That offensive outburst put us on our heels, and we never really recovered. And up until that point, we were playing a strong second half. It was a near-instant reversal of fortune, just as in the Creighton game.

It's so disappointing to watch this team beat themselves!

It was a mistake by Cousins but it was a weak call. The guys swear all game.

Those are two really good basketball teams. I think both make the sweet sixteen.

The 3 pointer after the T was bigger IMO.

Of course it was dumb but I agree with his point. If it wasn't that play it could have been any other play where we didn't score forever and watched them score every time. If we can't pass a test where we give up a technical when we are up by 20 and let it be the reason to totally wilt then we just can't pass a test.

@ Texas two years ago was worse

That's certainly debatable, but one thing is eerily similar about the two games - everything fell apart once an OU player made a boneheaded play to wake a sleeping giant. M'baye and Cousins will be forever linked in the two most inexcusable losses this decade...if not this century.

Of course it is possible but I am not betting or predicting it. A lot of it depends on matchups. I think both teams will have close games against anyone they play.

Ok, let assume OU beats KU Saturday, all you guys busting on Lon will be jumping over the moon raving about what a great coach he is and OU was right in hiring this guys. You will also be saying that we are going in the right direction, Lon is the coach and he directs the direction the team goes so you must give him credit. Guys, we knew going in this would be a tough game. The T by Cousins woke the sleeping giant and once the crowd got into it their team responded no matter what Lon did, think about all the easy missed shots, those aren't on Lon.

Maybe it was a weak call. But you don't give the refs, in front of that crowd, a reason to call ANYTHING that might spark them. High five your own guys and walk back to the huddle. Instead, Cousin's is a selfish idiot and has to jaw with their bench. Niang and-1and a three on their next possession and there ya go.

Pretty disappointing that one of our most experienced guys is the one that mouthed off. Crippling loss.

The problem I have is why is a Lon coached team getting a bonehead T like that on the road?

Kruger is an average coach. Are you serious? I believe his piers that know the game of basketball would disagree.

No, I was surprised at the lack of a ****ing adjustment. ISU made one at half, we didn't counter, we got exposed as individual defensive players, and we give up 59 second half points

I made a similar comment in the game thread. OU, as a unit, is a very good defensive team. But if you spread the floor and run iso, then you can expose our weakness....and that is we aren't very good "one on one" defenders. We had our best defender (Cousins) on their most skilled player (Niang) and it was like childs play. None of our other guys could keep their man in front of them....or so it seemed. When a skilled offensive team decides to do that to us, I'm not sure there is much that we can do...save fouling them.

He is probably better than average, but he isn't elite, and probably isn't even in the category below elite.
