Would you support Capel

So it is everyone's fault but Jeff Capel's that this team sucks?

I didn't see that sentiment at all in his/her post. I simply saw that he said whoever the coach is should be in charge until a new coach is named, etc... and the team should continue to support their coach as long as the powers that be keep him as the coach. Plain and simple......

I cant think of one program in the Big 12 that would keep their coach with back to back seasons like OU has had. He lost the coaching staff, he hasnt recruited well, he is responsible for 2 of the worst seasons in the history of the program, he loses a lot of players, etc.

At any respectable basketball job, you are GONE. Why should OU be any different? Its been 5 years, thats plenty long.

Has any other big 12 coach got a massive contract extension then the following year had 2 pathetically bad losing seasons. I am sure JC is not happy with it cause wouldn't he have to waste a ton of money just to hire a new coach and pay a respectable salary too?

I disagree.

If another Big 12 program had just finished with one of the best seasons in program history before that 2-season meltdown, then I'm willing to bet that coach would still be employed.

It wouldn't be at every Big 12 program, but that definitely would be the scenario at some. Not saying that justifies keeping Capel, but OU isn't the only one that would be doing it. I would guarantee that.

But the Blake year wasn't one of our best ever... It was a good one, and we made the elite 8 with a late run, but it was not one of our best ever. We've been top-ranked and headed to the final four too many times to count it in that category.

We are going to bleed out next year anyway. I'd rather bleed out with a new coach

In before the chorus of capslocking "No he's an IDIOTAWFULCOACH" posts....As for the OP, I'm honestly not sure. I've been an ardent Capel supporter this season, but all this losing, especially 'bad' losing, is finally starting to take it's toll on me.

I'm also in this camp, Soomerman. I watched the Sooners improve after losing their first three conference games, and I truly believed the team was turning the corner and might even be able to compete for a bye in the first round of the Big XII tournament.

Then came the loss at Stillwater, and everything started going to hell in a handbasket. But even as the losses were mounting, I could still take solace in the fact the team was competing and not quitting like the 2010 Sooners did. But last night may have been the coupe de grace for me. It got so bad, I simply couldn't stand to watch what was happening. I turned off the TV with about 3-4 minutes left in the first half (from some of today's posts, it looks like I may have missed some pretty good play from Cade, which doesn't surprise me at all). In any case, while I can stand losing to a better team, I can't tolerate watching the Sooners simply go through the motions and get blown out by a team like Tech.

It's not easy to do, but I suppose I'm ready to admit that Capel's hiring looks more and more like an experiment that failed miserably. I suppose Jeff will be here next year, and I hope he'll bring in some decent recruits that will make the team better and more competitive. But I won't hold my breath. My, oh my, what a season this has been!!!
