it COULD be that Capel is a good coach...but this league has gotten so much stronger overall that you need to do better than that to succeed.

Could be. However, I don't think the conference is any better.

KU is still and will always be KU.
Texas was a good program when Sampson was coaching.
OSU is not as good as when Eddie Sutton was there.
KSU is better now, or was better last year.
Mizzou is about as good now as they were before Snyder.
ISU is worse.
CU is about the same.
Baylor is better.
aTm is better although their best years were with BCG when Sampson was in Norman.
Tech is not as good.
OU is worse.
Nebraska is like they always were but a little better.

The 2 teams that are better now than they were in the 90's or early 00's are Baylor and aTm, and I maintain they improved when OU declined. They are getting the type of kids we used to recruit, but now that we are recruiting kids from the east coast we aren't getting the Texas talent as we once did.

This is what I don't understand. This team was predicting to finish 11th in the Big 12. If we finish ahead of that then we have exceeded expectations. If we get one more conference win that's more than last teams conference win total. And that team had so much more talent than this team.

Frankly, if we finish ahead of our predicting rank and get more wins than those bunch of prima-donnas with the scrubs we have now then we can't be terribly upset.

I'm not talking about the future, but for this season I really can't understand why everyone's in a tizzy. To date, we've performed a little better than predicted.

Two very simple questions...

Is this year's Kansas team better than the 07-08 team or even last year's Kansas team?

Is this year's Texas team better than 05-06 team or even 07-08 team?

Well, Nebraska, Iowa State and Colorado are not much better than before. OSU is worse than they used to be. Texas and KU have been good for a long time. Mizzou is usually "solid" most years. K-State is up and down.

A&M and Baylor are obviously stronger than in years of yore, but are not world beaters.

I think the conference IS better.

KU is BETTER
UT is BETTER
ATM is BETTER
Baylor is BETTER
Mizzou is BETTER
Colorado is BETTER
KState is BETTER

The league is better.

Because expectations should never have fallen so low, and many of us fear that they won't rise very much for the foreseeable future.

KSU, Baylor and aTm are better. Texas had a final 4 team and elite 8 team within the last 10 years. They always have talent.

Mizzou, CU, and KU are like they always were.

KU is better than when? The year they won the tourney?
UT is better now that they don't have Augustin or Durant?
ATM is better?...I'd call it a draw, at best.
Baylor is better but not better than last year IMO.
Mizzou is always Mizzou.
Colorado is better but still suck.
KState is better than last year? Nope.

ISU is way down from the days of Johnny Orr, Tim Floyd, and Larry Eustachy.

I'm a Capel fan but this is taking the excuse train way too far...

Well, sitting inside the LNC watching those teams in person, I can recall seeing MUCH BETTER KU, UT, ISU and Mizzou teams in the past.

I don't think the overall quality of college basketball is as good as it used to be.

I think you have become what I don't want to become and that is a fan who is happy with mediocrity.

I can live with this year considering how we were picked, but next year better be an NCAA tournament berth or we need a new coach.

I just don't see how anybody can claim the conference is tougher now than it used to be. We have 2 good teams and a bunch of mediocre to bad teams.

KU will probably not win the regular season conference title for the first time under Self, If I'm not mistaken. This probably their worst team in years. They are still really good though.

This could be the best Texas team ever. It's easily the best since they lost to Syracuse in the Final Four.

Missouri is probably not quite as good as they've been in recent years when they went to deep in the tournament. But they are an NCAA Tournament team. They are probably better than most of the Snyder era. Although those teams probably had more talent.

A&M had some really solid years in the Late Sampson era. They are better than they were for most of the late 90s and early 2000s. But with Gillespie they were a solid NCAA Tournament team.

Baylor is better but average is better than what they were before. And they are slightly above average.

Colorado is about the same. They went 10-6 one year and didn't make the NCAA Tournament under Patton. I thought they were better early in the conference season but they've tanked this year.

Kansas State is about the same. Last year they were better than they were. But this year they are probably about the same as they were in the 90s and early 2000s which is average at best.

Tech is probably worse

Iowa State is much worse,

Oklahoma State is much worse

We are much worse.

I don't think we'll ever see the Big 12 as good as it was from 2000-2005 or so.

waitaminute

the point is he's not good enough to succeed in this league.

not sure how that rates as an "excuse"
