He screwed himself. The NCAA is just upholding it's rules. Don't be a dumbass and accept thousands of dollars in illegal benefits and you get to play. Making good decisions isn't really that hard when Compliance hounds you all the time about getting free stuff.

Not only are they upholding their rules, but they're following their own precedent regarding players who intentionally mislead them.

Had he been upfront with them and repaid the money, he'd be playing right now. It's his own fault.
 
Feel bad for the kid. He chooses to come back to school, and then they screw him by suspending him for the year.

umm what? how did he get screwed? Texas got caught. This has probably happened with other longhorns as well and went unnoticed.
