This is sort of like asking...hey guys, who do you think is the best WR of all time?

There's only one answer.

My favorite might be Choo Kennedy or Tim McCalister because that was when I fell in love with OU hoops.
Big 8 on Raycom FTW.

You guys are younger but I feel compelled to mention some old-timers. Obviously Alvin Adams was a great player and belongs in the top 3-4 but some other players were pretty good, too.

Garfield Heard averaged over 10 boards a game over his career, and played in the NBA for 11 years. Blake broke his single season mark of 21 double-doubles in a career he finished in 1970. Another player on that team that played in the NBA for 10 years was Clifford Ray.

Even a few years before them was the late 6'8" Don Sidle. He was a 2-time All American and was 1 of 3 Sooners to average over 20 points a game for his career (Wayman and Alvin were the other two). Sidle played in the old ABA. Another good guard was Willie Rogers.

Those 4 guys along with Adams were as good as the players over the past couple of decades. Especially Sidle and Heard who were only a notch below Adams.

The history lesson is over......

Ray won a ring with the Warriors and Heard hit that shot against the Celtics in that 3OT game in the finals at the Gaahden. They have both coached in the NBA and I believe Ray won a ring with the Celtics in 2008. Adams was about the first one I remember seeing play on a regular basis. Both Heard and Ray were gone before I started watching.

1) Wayman (not even close IMO)

Gap

2) Alvin Adams
3) Blake Griffin
4)Mookie
5) Stacey King
6) Harvey Grant
7) Jeff Webster
8)Tim McCallister
9) Brent Price
10)Ryan Minor
11) Najera/Hollis Price

Others:
CHoo Kennedy
Slim Patterson
Nate Erdman
Bryan Sallier
Corey Brewer
Jackie Jones (could have been in the top 5 had he made the grades)
Skeeter Henry
Kermit Holmes
Ace McGhee

What could have been team:

1)Anthony Cade (grade issue..was a former Mc D's AA)
2) Orlando Lightfoot - never made it to Norman..ended up at Idaho
3) Bobby Joe Evans - knee injuries

Heard and Adams were teammates on the 76 team that lost in 6 games to the Celtics. Ray was the leading rebounder for the Warriors in the Finals the year before.

I'm not sure a top 10 list is legit if it doesn't include Gar Heard. He's before my time, I'm 37, but it doesn't take much research to realize he had to be one of the 10 best players in OU basketball history along with Don Sidle.

Hello! I'll be brief.

1. The man's name is Alvan Adams.

2. Look up Lester Lane. You'll be glad you did.

3. If you double Blake Griffin's two-year point total it will be short of Wayman's three-year career tally.

Tisdale and it is not even close. He was a 3 time consensus all american and 3 time Big 8 player of the year. Wayman is in competition for the greatest college player of all time.

:clap:clap:clap

WWT!!!!!!!! If you saw him play, there is no other choice to consider.

Great debate. My reason for picking Hollis is because winning tops my list. Of course he did not post the statistics of the other players listed but he won more than all of them.

Most importantly for me, Hollis was the only player who gave us an upside surprise. He won games OU fans did not expect to win while everybody else would get upset and eventually let us down.

He was a pretty amazing player. With Hollis I felt like every game was winnable. I hope we see his name in the rafters someday.

I was in grade school when they were at OU, but Gar Heard and Clifford Ray were both really good players, circa 1970.

It's too bad that Alvan Adams didn't have a better supporting cast. His sophomore year team ('74), OU was favored in the league but lost it to KU. That would have been an NCAA tourney team in "modern times."

The same goes for the '77 team, led by the underrated John McCullough. Mac was a two-time All-Big 8 first-team, and the Big 12 player of the year in '79.

Somewhere Gerald Tucker and Paul Courtney of the late 40s deserve some mention towards the top 10. Different era, style of play but exceptional players. Also Tom Churchill (no relation to Winston) from the 30s. Believe he was also an Olympian in track.

Lester Lane is probably the greatest "unknown" player of all time.
He played on the 1960 Olympic team, which was considered probably the best Olympic team of all time until the 84' Dream Team. It included Jerry West, Jerry Lucas and Oscar Robertson....and Lester Lane was a starter on that team!

Even with your criteria stated above, I don't see how you can put him ahead of Mookie. His team played in the NC game.
