Hollis is not in the top 5
Disagree. His accolades and clutch play warrants a Top 5 ranking. Or at least he should be closely considered for it.
Hollis is not in the top 5
Best player over his career Wayman, not even close. Most dominant for 1 season, edge to Blake over WT.
Leaning towards this assertion as well. Cumulatively it has to be Wayman. One season, however, is hard to argue against Blake's 2008-2009 season as #1.
Great debate. My reason for picking Hollis is because winning tops my list. Of course he did not post the statistics of the other players listed but he won more than all of them.
Most importantly for me, Hollis was the only player who gave us an upside surprise. He won games OU fans did not expect to win while everybody else would get upset and eventually let us down.
Bingo,no contest.I would say though that if Adams had played for OU under Tubbs while OU was among basketball elite,it would be a two horse race. Also if the subject was the best basketball player ever to come out of OU Blake is the clear choice.AA and WT were solid players but not stars in the NBA,while Blake is elite among the best in the NBA.Blake is alraedy a 2-time all-star which is one more than AA and two more than WT.Alvan averaged 14.1 ppg and 7.0 rpg in his NBA career while Wayman went for 15 qnd 6. Blake on the other hand is a 22 and 11 guy, who is still developing his game.Tisdale and it is not even close. He was a 3 time consensus all american and 3 time Big 8 player of the year. Wayman is in competition for the greatest college player of all time.
I'll argue it based on COMPETITION. Wayman's competition for POY included Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwan, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Danny Manning, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, etc, etc etc. No disrespect to Blake, but I doubt he puts up those numbers in Wayman's era.
Anyway, no one who saw Wayman play will have him anywhere except #1 on the list. MOST would have the same #2 - #5, except the order would vary: Alvan Adams, Blake Griffin, Mookie Blaylock and Stacey King. It starts getting interesting with the #6 - #10 slots with so many players to choose from.
God I'll be glad when the Nick Thompson bashing is over with. Pretty pathetic that some of you feel the need to continue to bash him thinking you're funny. So original.
On another note, fo some of you who have only really mentioned top players since the Sampson era..I highly recommend you get some old recordings of some of Tubbs' teams. I love Hollis Price to death, but he probably wouldn't have started for some of the teams in the late 80's. The overall talent level back then was so much different than now. Tubbs had tremendous athletes even sitting on the bench. I think you'll really enjoy watching those teams play!!
Hollis Price would start for any of the Tubbs teams, but your point is correct overall those teams were much more fun to watch and probably the best teams in the country those years. But I think the 02 and 03 teams were just as fun to watch.
If Hollis was on the 1988 team we cut down the nets. No questions asked.
So I guess Hollis would have shut down Danny Manning?? Have you seen the game? I think the '88 team is one that Holiis wouldnt have started on, unless they went with a small 3 guard offense and brought Sieger off the. I just think Rickey Grace was a much better at running the point, and no way he starts over Mookie. Hollis wasn't a PG. If he was, he would have made a team in the league.
I think it was the '90 or '91 team?? When we had Terry Evans and Brent Price. Thats another team where it would have been a toss up on if he starts. Evans was very solid at running the point, but Hollis was defintely a better overall player between the two. I personally think Brent Price is defintely better than Hollis. Brent had a tremendous stroke and could hit it from deep. I still remember his game against Loyola MM, when you threw in 54 points. Brent had a nice long career in the NBA as a backup PG as well.

You're absolutely right; Hollis wasn't really a PG. He wasn't a great ballhandler/passer. He could shoot the ball and played with a lot of heart. Quannas White was the PG for 2 years. His injury against Indiana is the reason the Sooners didn't make it to the championship game. Quannas wasn't an offensive player but could handle pressure, play defense, and he was so strong. His play allowed Hollis to play off guard and take a blow while Quannas put the ball in play setting up the half court offense. They really complemented each other.
It's hard to keep off a guy that can get his shot up like Hollis could on that team. Ricky Grace would be a great change of pace guy but Hollis would start and make Mookie a better PG.Yes he would have been a great 6th man on that team. I seriously doubt he puts Ricky Grace or Mookie Blaylock on the bench.
