You have seemed very negative about virtually every name discussed (I know you like Mack). Whats the deal?

Just can't get that pumped up about a guy that's lost 70 games in 5 years (14 per).

Over the next three years what are your expectations for Weber?

That's fine, I was really asking about the general negativity surrounding all the candidates. If im off base let me know.

  1. For you to ***** and moan
  2. For you to call for Joe C's resignation
  3. For you to make numerous overly negative predictions about our future

Am I close?

His resume isn't exactly mediocre. He's won 20 games or more in 9 of his 10 seasons as a head coach. He's also gone to 3 Sweet 16 or better in that span. Granted he had Self's talent for 2 of those. He would be a damn good hire.

Not that it matters too much but he's been to one Sweet Sixteen and one National Championship game in that span, not three. And they were in his first two years, so say what you will about "winning with another guy's players", but it seems to ring true in this case.

In the past six years he's been to the NIT once and NCAA's 4 times, first weekend exits every year. Not bad. It's just kind of... whatever.

LOL That's what I thought. No expectations.

You're probably right. The state of OU bball brings out the negativity. Come find me in 3-5 years when you are hoping for Joe to fire Bruce.

He went to a Sweet 16 at Southern Illinois, went to a Sweet 16 his first year at Illinois, went to the National Title game his 2nd year at Illinois.

Here's a real question:

If we are willing to hire Bruce Weber, why didn't we give Capel one more year?

Now THAT doesn't make sense.

And then dropped the F off the map.

Bruce is better than most of the other names thrown out. Probably better than Lonnie Kruger, he's got a better resume than Buzz Williams right now. He's got a better resume than just about everyone we are talking about except for Brad Stevens.

Capel had the team in the toilet with no prospect of things getting better, but what does that have to do with Weber?

I think some of our fans took for granted winning 20 games every year as dropping off the map. He's had 1 bad year at Illinois. The other years are solid seasons. Won an NCAA tournament game this year and gave KU a battle for most of that game. Went to the NIT quarters the year before.

Capel had the team in the toilet with no prospect of things getting better, but what does that have to do with Weber?

With us still waiting for the NCAA to let us off the hook and decide whatever penalty, it didn't make much sense in sending Capel packing unless there was some interest within the coaching community of being the head coach at OU.

If Bruce Weber is the answer to Joe's exhaustive search then I feel like it was indeed a failure. Maybe I'm wrong, and that's fine, but Bruce seems to have peaked. From a state that is rich in basketball talent, a program that was kick-started by Bill Self, he has been unable to sustain it. Maybe that's because of poor support from his athletic department, mediocre facilities or whatever the case is, but he still hasn't gotten much done there in the past five years, outside of just showing up to the tournament.

I doubt he's peaked at his age. Peaked at Illinois? Perhaps, although he has a good class coming in. Granted the Illini fans aren't at all convinced that he can recruit people that fit his system, not that he can't recruite or coach. Even with that he still seems like a much better hire than most of the ones we have available.
