Zo to Zona

Trier told ESPN.com that he chose the Wildcats over Washington, UCLA, Kansas and Louisville. No mention of OU.

As for him changing schools that just shows he's interested in improving and putting himself in a better environment. Certainly not a negative.

Interested in improving is not a reason to jump schools four times in five years. That is an excuse and a very weak one. He has been at more than 1 school that has put out multiple DI prospects.....he has played against top tier comp......there is an underlying issue somewhere and it could be as simple as having someone close in his ear giving him bad advice.

You can believe that or not.....doesn't matter to me. I've been a coach at the high school and college level for 20 years....something is up in that situation.

He is definitely a top talent and chose a great program. I'm glad he got a chance at a school he likes. I'm just glad it is over already and OU can move on (even though it is evident with other offers they had an idea.)

Stop there are no red flags he has left every school in great standing. Players love him, coaches love him. He does his school work and plays ball that's it. He has a great support system behind him. He is being mentored by Kevin Durant. A kid can go to whatever school he wants to that he feels can get him to the next level. Amare Went to 7 schools it means nothing. Alonzo's focus is the NBA.

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't he upgraded to a stronger program each time? What could possibly be wrong with moving around to different parts of the country? It's a sign of confidence and maturity.

You're saying he would have been better off staying with the little home school outfit in oklahoma instead of moving up the food chain to Montross and Findlay? His advice is coming from Kevin Durant who spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at National Christian Academy then transferred to Oak Hill for his junior season and on to Montross for his senior season. Look at the NBA draft picks Findlay has been churning out including Nick Johnson from UA in the current draft.

Yeah have to agree. Findlay plays, if not the best, one of the best schedules in the country.

Changing schools is definitely a red flag. Not saying the kid is not good, and not even saying that a kid is at fault for changing schools (parents - advisors), but its still a red flag.

Think of it this way. If you are hiring someone for a job, and the person applying has had 4 different jobs in 5 years. That would be a concern. It does not mean you do not hire that person, you just have to ask the right questions in an interview and get the right answer.

So yes his changing schools is a red flag, but unless you are interviewing him and hear the reasoning, you don't know why that changed occurred.

Wasn't a red flag to schools. 15 yrs ago it's red flags, red flags if someone gets kicked out of schools.
He got an offer from every school minus duke and Kentucky... And they were close and probably would've if he waited.

It happens these days, it's not a big deal anymore.

Just b/c they offered, doesn't mean it wasn't a read flag.

First, they probably did their due diligence in regards to the moving around.

Second, some kids are so talented, you take a chance on them, red flags an all.

Red flag doesn't mean the kid is bad, or whatever. It simply means there is something that needs to be looked into, and COULD be an issue.

Look what happened to Dion Sanders's Prep school - its not cleared by the NCAA for academics and from what I read they were letting in some kids that were not eligible at there old school and letting them play. Not saying this is the case with Zo, but colleges would have to check on this or they could get in trouble.

I think all the schools probably asked him why he had changed schools, and I assume he gave a great to decent answer and they said ok. Like I said about a job interview, it can definitely be explained away but that doesn't mean they won't look at it.

I agree it happens, but how often does it happen 4 times for high school. Most players attend one high school and then go and attend a prep school. Again not presuming anything about Zo, just the way it looks. But looks can be deceiving.

Trier moved here from Seattle when he was in the eighth grade, played for the homeschool OKC Storm as an eighth and ninth grader, before transferring to Tulsa to play for NOAH his sophomore season. From there, he went the prep school route, at Montrose (MD) Christian his junior season, and will likely finish his high school career at Findley Prep in Las Vegas.

So, before someone asks why LK and his staff can't reel in the top recruits in Oklahoma, it's important to note that this young man was not a home grown product who felt any sense of loyalty to the state or to OU. Heck, the Sooners didn't even make his final four. While it would have been nice if he had picked OU, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that he chose to go out of state.

Now, if we don't get Shake Milton, that may be another story entirely. Let's hope that story has a happier ending.

Every kid is looked into! Kid that transfer 4 times or straight a student.

You guys are missing my point, kids do these things... It's normal in HS basketball these days.

Think of it this way. Zo did not change "schools, he changed basketball camps. He learned from a set of good coaches and moved on to another set of good coaches. He competed against good athletes and then competed against better athletes.

Along the way he completed some required academics. But he's in basketball training. Good for him. He's probably way ahead of his peers.

I don't know what is more disturbing to me.....that it happens.......or that there are people who think that this is the "norm".

High school isn't AAU....and this is completely an AAU mentality. It is NOT the norm to change schools every year. No matter what your "reason" is it is so far from the norm it is almost laughable.

Like I said....I am not knocking the KID....he may be a great kid for all I know.....may come from a great family and have a great support system. He may get advice from great people but the VAST MAJORITY of athletes don't change schools ONCE.....let alone FOUR times.

To MOST people (coaches in particular.....and Im not talking about AAU coaches).....it is a bit of a red flag. These guys typically do their due dilligence so Im not concerned about that....and a LOT of coaches would take him regardless...but I GUARANTEE you that one of the first question they all ask (usually they ask the coaches) is why he changed schools so much.

I agree 98%. These high profile kids do it all the time. It's normal for them.

Boca is right, these high profile guys are in basketball training.

I have never understood why people like to judge and presume things about a kid. I happen to know for a fact that many on here have Trier's story grossly misunderstood. Allonzo was homeschooled from the 8th - 10th grade. That's the bottom line. When you are homeschooled you can play sports and chose when and where you want to play. An advantage homeschool has. Zo took it upon himself to transfer to Montrose Christian to ensure that he would academically qualify which was a very smart move on his part with good intentions. He wanted to also prove he could play a national schedule at a powerhouse like Montrose. What most of you don't know which may shock you is that Zo had intended on staying his final year at MC but MC messed up and put him in the wrong class which he could file for academic negligence on their part. With Stu Vetter gone MC's new staff failed Zo academically and since then he has made up for the wrong class taken thru summer school. Would you want your kid to stay? I'm told Zo was recruited to Findlay Prep, Montverde and Huntington Prep but his mother chose Findlay because of the academics and the college setting environment. Ask any coach from Seattle where he is from to Dallas to OKC to the east coast and EVERY coach will tell you nothing but great things about Zo's character. Would Sean Miller PAC 12 coach of the year and potential #1 team recruit Zo if he wasn't? Zo is a Mcdonalds All American and started for Team USA which is the highest high school honor and here we are questioning this kids character and bringing up red flags. The kid is one of the most focused kids I have ever met and will be one of the best to ever come out of Oklahoma. His story will be told for a very long time and it will be a great story in time..

Ok, you guys have personal relationship with "Zo", while most of us don't. I can promise you, if you didnt know him personally like we don't, red flags would also go up for you too! That's the point you guys are missing that we are trying to make. And I'm not bitter at all, I never thought for a minute he'd consider OU. Heck he can't even find a high school/prep school he thinks is up to his standards. Why would we think that he'd think OU was!?!? LOL

And I think that is exactly the point most of us were making. The changing schools( teams) is a red flag, but once you talk with ZO and find out why, then all concerns are nullified. But it seems that some on the board are saying that changing schools like that doesn't matter. It does, can it be explained yes and obviously based on your post he has a great explanation why.

My entire point exactly.....and stated in more than one post. I never once bashed the kid....simply said so much transferring was a red flag for me and many others.

I also stand by that....but if there is a logical reason then so be it. Would make sense at that point.
