Four in the mix for Akolda Manyang

If Thomas sits out this year and we get Manyang then my guess would be Spangler off the bench.

I would be surprised to see Spangler come off the bench as a senior. I hope Thomas gets his waiver and plays during Ryan's junior season, but if he doesn't, I could see Thomas starting ahead of him in 2 years but it would surprise me for Manyang, Lattin, or McNeace to start ahead of him, too.

This.

You don't keep your roster "happy" by benching 5th year seniors that have stared the previous two years.

And yes, I understand "starting your best players", I just don't think Manyang will be enough of an upgrade over Spangler, to send him to the bench. I'm also on record as saying there is no way we get Manyang if Thomas has to sit out this next season.

Manyang is a 7 footer who can run, jump, and protect the rim, and Thomas is a better stretch 4 and low post skill. Spangler is the ideal 1st big off the bench for a top 10 team. Spangler is good enough to start on a top 10 team but I would rather have a true 5 man start bc not many teams have those. I may be off on manyang, but he looks like the real deal.

If he's looked like the real deal, it's been against decidedly lesser competition. I hope we sign the kid and I look for big things from him if we do, but the jump to D1 is not to be dismissed as a minor consideration.

I wouldn't count out Spangler as a senior against a player making the move up a level or three.

He was on one of the best JUCO teams in the nation, he practices against future D1 players everyday. I think I read he was going to Minnesota but they encouraged him to go to Indian Hills bc of off the court issues.

Nope. Didn't have the test scores.

Indian Hills Community College has an entire roster of D1 players. I know OU recruited 2 guys from their roster this season: Savon Goodman and Roderick Bobbitt. Arizona State not only signed Goodman but got probably their best player in Roosevelt Scott.... plus the Indian Hills coach: Barret Peery. Baylor signed their point guard, Lester Medford. They even had some reserves sign LOI's. By the way, that's where DJ Bennett played, too.

Akolda Manyang was a starter as a freshman which is a huge testament to his game and skill set at a school who could have challenged a lot of D1 schools.

I don't pretend to be an expert on basketball but I know one thing, Spangler won't be coming off the bench.

I am not an expert either, but I do have communication with some people in the "know" and I totally agree with your statement.

I tend to agree with this statement; however, if Spangler has to come off the bench that is a great for OU. It means OU is a very deep team. Ryan is a All Conference level performer. To have a guy like that as your first big off the bench is huge.

The way I see the future is OU should have Hield, Cousins, Woodard, Thomas and Spangler as guys that are playing at an All-Conference level. All of them certainly will not make the All-Conference team but I think they are all guys that potentially could in the right situation. Thomas might have to wait a year but he will almost certainly play at an All Conference level given that he has done it in CUSA and the American Athletic Conference or whatever the Big East is called now.
