Looks like he may be a late target for us.

One name they might not know is senior Reggie Murphy, who is quickly becoming a hot commodity for the Comets.

"He's going to be a very good player, probably a better college player than he was a high school player," Westchester coach Ed Azzam said of his 6-foot-9 center.
Murphy currently has offers from Oklahoma, TCU and Marquette on the table.

With all the attention the other players on his team receive, it's a little easy for Murphy to get missed. But scouts have begun looking at the senior's frame more closely, and they see a bright future for a player that Azzam calls "a young senior."

"He is a young senior in terms of basketball experience," Azzam explained. "He's going to have to continue to work in the weight room to become a better player, but he's really been improving this year and I think it's just a matter of time before he breaks out."

Westchester HS is a great program out in Cali. Isn't that where Jordin Mayes is at?

Just checked and that indeed is where Mayes is at and they won the California Division I Title.

Seems like a Longar type that wouldn't have much immediate impact but could develop into a strong player. If we bring him in we'd obviously need to compliment him with a couple of posts that are ready to contribute immediately.

Westchester (Los Angeles, Calif.) 63, Newark Memorial (Newark, Calif.) 56

The nation's No. 4 team huffed and puffed but could never quite blow the undersized and over-achieving Newark Memorial Cougars away.

But mission was accomplished.

They Comets (32-3) kept the upset-minded the Cougars (30-5) at bay, utlizing their array of athletic and skilled players, led by 16 points from 6-foot-9 senior Reggie Murphy, 12 by Denzel Douglas and 11 from Jordin Mayes.

They won their second straight and sixth state crown without a defeat.

Newark trailed by 16 early in the third quarter but went on a 10-0 run to close to 34-28. That's as close as the Cougars would get despite a game-high 25 points from Khion Sankey and 12 by Kendall Andrews. Desite being only 6-4, Sankey and Andrews had game highs of 10 rebounds.

Westchester shot a sizzling 56 percent from the floor (23 of 41) and used a 17-7 run in the second quarter to take control.

"It's a credit to the kids and it's a great relief," Westchester coach Ed Azzam said. "It's been a lot of pressure to repeat and the kids did it. I'll tell you what though, that's a tough team we just beat. I didn't feel comfortable until the final 12 seconds. If they asked us to play two out of three, I don't think I'd take them up on it."

Looks to me like Jeff is trying to go more toward building for the future with freshmen with going after Ross and this guy. We won't have room for more than 1 or 2 JUCOs unless we have more leaving than we think.

Interview video with some highlights.

Saw the final on cable out here in CA but wasn't on the lookout for Murphy but the team he was on was impressive. The announcers were very highly spoken of his team Westchester.

From his latest ESPN scouting report dated January
He is not a dynamic low post scorer, but he keeps it simple and plays to his strengths finishing a high percentage of his shots form close proximity. One concern I would have is his lack of rebounding production; in the game I saw him play he had zero boards in 21 minutes. He is a good low post defender that is not afraid to bang and is difficult to score over

0 rebounds in 20 minutes!? No thanks someone else can have him... We need a tall shot blocker and rebounder.... I fear if we don't get ndiaye we will not be getting anyone else that is that type

That was one game. Did you see the video I posted? He is a shot blocking machine. Plus in the title game he had 16 and 9. He is athletic defender which is what we need right now.
