6'4 SG from Katy, tx. Seven Lakes HS

OU offered tonight. Assume staff saw him at addidas national over the weekend.

19-6a offensive POY as jr.

1st team all district as jr.

Seems strange to offer him so early considering he's not a top tier talent. Like an isaiah cousins or frank Booker in terms of offers and rankings, meaning we could get him later (or someone like him).

Top 100 guy and from what I quick searched is on the rise.

According to scout 4 star top 100 kid. Lk like to get in before the big dogs.

Offers are a tad low at the time but he's a jr. Full summer and sr year to blow up!

That's they're approach Ala Buddy. They do a lot of back gym recruiting while everyone else is following the big names.

McGusty?

Are we sure this isn't just a fake name for a flatulence spell?

Interesting Link CoachTalk. It show all the shooting guards (SG) that OU has on the roster or is recruiting and it shows Odomes but not James. I looked up James and it lists him as a small forward (SF). I would have guessed the roles to be reversed….. I know it doesn't really mean anything.

On McGusty, I used to live in Katy (west Houston off I-10) and that place is really growing. When I moved there in 1997 they had 3 HS. Now they have 7. They really didn't have very good basketball there but they had great football teams (Katy HS is where Rodney Anderson and Matt Dimon from the football team played). It's located close to the "oil corridor" so a lot of their employees live in Katy.

SF and SG are really interchangeable.... I think both are really the same.

I look at a SF to be someone like Dustin Hogue or Cam Clark. A guy that can either play on the perimeter or help out inside. Someone in the 6'6" range. I differentiate that with a SG that handles the ball more and has more of a perimeter game in the 6'4" range like Cousins.

I think Buford and Odomes are more in the SF category….. like Cam was although he was forced into the PF role by necessity.

Seven Lakes is the best basketball school in Katy, though they finished 2nd in district this season. The district is relatively weak, and the competition not strong, but Seven Lakes is usually very good. They have 1 or 2 D--1 players each year on average.

Good program, well coached, and very competitive in the Houston area.

I lived in Katy from 97-2003, so only had Katy, Mayde Creek, and Taylor HS but later added Cinco Ranch. I refereed out of the Rice Belt chapter so saw some of those programs. Taylor had the strongest program then but they had problems with the Alief schools for example.

Yeah, a lot more athletes in Alief. Seven Lakes, though, has its fair share and because the school is so big, they've always got some good role players, ball handlers, and big guys. It's become sort of the go-to school in Katy if your kid is good at basketball.

I live in Katy and catch 1-2 Seven Lakes games per year. They were a little down this year compared to most years but they'll be back up again.

Kameron McGusty is blowing up the AAU circuit. He's leading the Under Armour circuit in scoring thru 12 games, and has recently picked up an offer from Indiana and is about to pick up an offer from Louisville. I like the way they describe his game in this article:
