2016 offer Kameron McGusty

Come on man. It's highly unlikely either end up at OU from what it looks like. Kids decommit all the time now. Some end up picking 4 schools before they end up somewhere. Likely not heading back to OU.

I'm not saying Payton will end up at OU, but having read his remarks and his dad's, I'm not prepared to throw in the towel on him, and I'll bet Coach Kruger and his staff aren't either.

We can go all doom and gloom, but that serves no purpose. In fact, if Payton were to visit this board (I'm not saying he would do so, but who knows?) and see us throwing in the towel, that just might be enough to sway him to go elsewhere.

Yes, I know that scenario is probably a reach, but if you were a young player, wouldn't you want to go to a school that had some swagger, where the fans were confident and believed in he program? As opposed to one where the fans threw in the towel at the first sign of adversity?

I'm not making any predictions either way, is all. Let's wait and see what happens.

As for McGusty, what evidence do we have? One post from Coach Talk, a poster I respect, but even he didn't say it was a done deal or anything. Some of you are taking any bit of bad news you can find and running with it.

I know it's rare that kids recommit after a decommit.

But it's possible and we still have a chance. Parents are grads, family, he's just making sure.

I spoke to 2 people about mcgusty. OU in his top 5 but it's no longer OU vs ut. These bigger dogs like Louisville and Florida offering are in the mix.

OU still has a good chance. Just not 50-50 anymore

You've said before that OU doesn't like to wait or be played. Do you think OU will wait on these guys?

Of course they will. This isn't time to pout and walk away. Recruiting requires a thick skin and not taking "no" for an answer unless you're Kentucky or Duke. As long as we have a shot, they will continue going after these guys very hard. For those of you that are OUI subscribers, James Hale wrote a very detailed interview summary on Kameron McGusty following his visit. McGusty thinks very highly of OU ....... but I'll tease you with one tidbit. The head coach he has the best relationship with is a former Sooner coach.

It may not be 50/50 for McGusty like CoachTalk says but I bet we have at least a 25% chance which is as good as anyone else. I bet the odds are at least that much for Pritchard, too. He may just want to take some visits to be sure, but we might even still be the leader. I bet the staff has a good idea where we stand.... this isn't their first rodeo and they can read the signs.

Thanks for the information. I'm not advocating pouting and walking away. I just asked because there has been talk by people with "inside info" on here that OU doesn't like to wait or (get played?) whatever the quote was.

When these things happen, there are always two sides. The side that has many on the board seeking cliffs to jump off of, then always the requisite "pumpers" who downplay the negative no matter what. I look at myself as a realist, and I call it like I see it. While I'm not searching for a cliff right now, it does "feel" like OU's McGusty momentum is on a downward trek, and after a decommit like Pritchard... Odds are he won't come back. I'm just going on trends i've seen with college football and bball decommits in the past. Now of course that doesn't mean that these two absolutely won't, and I'm glad you gave us the tidbit from that board. It's good that we are still in it with McGusty.. At this point my "feel" is that I'll be surprised if we end up getting either one but i'll be very happy, of course, if we do..

McGusty did say he plans on signing in November, so this won't drag out too long. Lew Hill is recruiting him and McGusty really likes him. He also says he feels like family when he visits OU. However, it has to be flattering to get new offers from big time schools like Louisville. I can't blame him for taking his time. He sounds very analytical in his decision process.

My biggest worry is that he may not want to wander too far from home. I think the competition level may eventually hurt U of H, but it could help Texas being 3 hours from home.

Man, I wish we could land a homesick stud every once in while(Norman North kid). ;]

Guess what -- so do I. So do we all.

If not immediately jumping to the worst possible conclusion makes me a "pumper," so be it. I know the trends every bit as well as you do. But Pritchard's not your average random recruit; he's a legacy with a long-held interest in OU. So maybe he proves to be the exception to the rule. Would I bet the rent that he'll stick with OU? Heck, no, but neither am I going to rule out the possibility that he might, not at this stage.

I'd call that pretty realistic.

As for McGusty, correct me if I'm wrong, but what you "know" about his recent thinking regarding OU comes from one post from Coach Talk, and CT himself has come back and clarified that OU is still in the mix for him. Hale said McGusty's visit went great and that McGusty felt that OU could be a really good fit. Have you factored that info into the equation, or are you going strictly by CT's first post (while ignoring his second)?

So you can paint yourself as the calm, analytical realist, if you like, but if I'm a pumper, you, sir, are out on the ledge.

McGusty would be a very good consolation but we need a PG too

McGusty isn't a consolation, he's a stud. I would call Pritchard target 1A and mcgusty 1B. We get them 2 then our guards are set with talent and depth for the next 4 years. I wonder if now they can sell playing pg more now to mcgusty, heard he wants to play the point.

he may want to play PG but I dont think he is an ideal PG for a Lon team.

I don't think he'll ever be a full time pg, I'm just saying they can sell that better now. Of course if by some miracle Pritchard re-commits I won't complain. I just hope we get one of them.

Well said.

McGusty was quoted in the article saying he could play all 3 guard positions.
