2016 season

Woodard / Cousins / Walker
Cousins / Odomes / James / Walker
Buddy / Buford / Odomes
Spangler / Lattin / Buford
Manyang / Lattin / McNeace

Should be a lot deeper, even with Frank leaving -- unless Buddy leaves.

Mine would look like this except I'd have James as the #2 at the SG spot. Excited about this entire incoming class plus what Buford and McNease will be by the time next season rolls around.

Sure hope Buddy comes back! We need the Harrison twins to declare so it will drop him two more spots in the draft.

Pritchard doesn't come in next year.

I know I'm going to get criticized for this one, but bring it on!

It will almost certainly be this, or very, very close. Not many questions if Buddy comes back, IMO.

Woodard/Cousins/Walker
Cousins/James/Odomes
Hield/Buford/Odomes
Spangler/Lattin/Buford
Manyang/Lattin/McNeace

I don't necessarily think Manyang will be the best player out of himself, Lattin, and Buford when the season starts, but you can't really start Buford beside Spangler, and I'm not sure LK wants to start Lattin beside him. So I think Manyang gets the call, based on size alone.

Also might see one of James/Odomes redshirt, especially if Buford is going to get minutes at the 3. Just too many bodies for 3 spots. The alternative would be Walker not playing at all, but I expect him to be a solid backup pg next year. He really needed a year to adjust to D1.

If Buddy comes back, I agree there aren't a lot of questions. A few key questions are:

1. Back up point guard?
2. Who takes Frank's spot as first guard off the bench: Odomes, James, or Buford? Hopefully we can get someone to attack the basket off the bench.
3. Can Manyang hang?

I hope Buford is ok with coming off the bench next year with Buddy coming back, if that's what it comes to. I remember some saying that it was understood that he would be Cam's heir apparent during recruiting(including starting).

There might have been some comparisons made on a board topic but, if you are hinting at anyone suggesting this staff promised an incoming recruit anything except an opportunity, they were being wildly inaccurate.

All that said, from what I've seen on recruiting videos and in practice, a comparison to Cam or the Hogue kid from ISU would be pretty accurate. I'm definitely in the camp that believes he would have been in the rotation this season and will help a lot next season as a combo forward off the bench or start at the 3 if Buddy leaves. I think he can guard multiple positions and score from several places on the floor. Very nice midrange game and should feast on that elbow jumper a lot of our forwards have been using. Probably has more range than Cam or Hogue but I don't know that he is quite that athlete Cam was.

You know something we don't know about Pritchard? Gosh that would be fantastic to have him come in early! I heard he has the credits to do so...

I know that Cam was a great athlete... And you said you've seen him in practice. Man, all the vids I've seen he looks to be a better athlete than anyone we've had in awhile. He plays way above the rim and is a human athletic highlight reel. I realize Cam is a great athlete, but I though Buford really was too..

Does nobody else see Buford as a starter at the 4 if Hield comes back? Admittedly, I haven't seen him play at all with OU, but based on his HS videos and reports, I assumed he could play the position well, and could potentially provide some of that extra offense that we desperately need. I just don't see the addition of somebody like Manyang for Thomas being enough to push this team to the heights we all want it to get to next year even if Buddy returns and everybody improves a little bit.

Not really. Mostly bc I don't see them starting Buford next to Spangler, and Spangler is definitely starting.

Yep.

If Buddy comes back, only one starting spot up for grabs, and it's the 5. That means Lattin, Manyang, or McNeace (not likely).

Woodard, Cousins, Hield, Spangler are locks.

So it's really just if you're going to go small with Buford or big with Manyang/Lattin.

Unless Lattin improves dramatically, he shouldn't start at all. It would be disappointing if he did.

Buford is intriguing and Manyang too. I'm not sure who will fit in best. I'd wager Buford might since he'll be around longer.

I know we will be techinically 'deeper' but at this point all the new guys incoming are just 'guys'. No one seems to be elite and therefore decreases the chance of a major impact IMO.

People forget that Hield who is now a potential NBA 1st rounder and all-conference player was largely just OK as a freshman who showed alot of promise. To expect James and Odomes to play that well or better as a freshman PLUS improve at the same rate as a SPECIAL player is largely unfair.

I think Buford starting at the 4 is possible. The important thing is getting him into the rotation even if he doesn't start. I do see him getting 20+ minutes/game in a 6th man role subbing for Spangler, Buddy, Cousins, etc. He's shorter than Lattin and Manyang, but stronger and a better offensive player….. and we need some scoring options on the floor.

I look at Lattin and Manyang being the same kind of player. Odomes intrigues me and could be really good….. challenge Buford. I think the year layoff due to injury will keep James from adding a lot next year. JMHO

Why does everybody think Spangler has a starting spot locked up? We don't owe him anything beyond his scholarship if he doesn't win a spot, and what he did in previous years is irrelevant. I know he's been a huge help for us these last two years, and it might be difficult for Lon to bench him, but if we're in the business of winning games, we owe it to the rest of the team and fanbase to play the best players. If we're looking to win a conference championship and do more than beat double-seeded teams in the tourney, Spangler is a weak link in our starting lineup.

Don't get me wrong, he has his uses, and would get solid minutes off the bench, but if we have to depend on him like we have these last two years, I don't see us making much noise.
