The 3 year talent upgrade cycle is impressive

SGS: Llanusa/Robertson/Murcer/Gregory
Big Wing: Madi/Scott/Gregory
PF: Madi/Lampkin/Brown/Scott
C: Lampkin/Brown/Aspen

Lots of interchangeable - matchup pieces. A second unit that is going to have at least top top 50 players running it. Scorers/shooters/athleticism.

Excited to see the ladies play this season. Looking forward to solid improvement and building back to a real contender.

Sherri is certainly out of the recruiting slump!

Ou is still lacking a backup post... other then Aspen OU doesn’t have a player that is a true center with size... I’ve seen Bloom listed as a 6’2 Forward, and watcher her highlights she doesn’t look Center... Even if OU was to bring in Brown and Amihere both are hoping to play away from the post in College, Brown as a 6’6 Forward, and Amihere as a 6’3 wing.

I will say this and I know we play in the Big 12 and bigs have always been a factor. But every time I see people saying we can’t because we don’t have a stationary post like ViVi in the line up I think of last year vs DePaul. We lost because they made us matchup to them and we couldn’t. Vivi could not guard the 6’1 guards they had. They essentially played two pg’s once more of a slasher one more of a distributor but both could do damage. And their shooting of course is always essential. Not conventional but you can win without stationary bigs in the tournament DePaul proved that.

Our best team was built on guards. We had the best post in the nation for four years and never made it to the Finals.

I have seen one clip in which Bloom was a dominant post. She can do it. It just isn't her typical way of playing. From what Sherri said about a year ago, it isn't what she sees as the future. I don't think she wants a back-to-the-basket stationary post. UConn does win a lot, and it is rarely due to a post. They usually have one. But, she is effective only because of the success of the other players around her who pass so well. We might have made Vivi into that type of star had we been able to shoot, run, nad pass with the best. At one point, Sherri called Nydia a post. That caught my interest.

I still remember losing to Stanford because we didn't have anyone around Courtney that could do what Wiggins did. We lost to Louisville in a comeback because they had a guard/forward whom we could not stop. My hope is that we are assembling that type of team.

If Madi, Ana, Gabby, or Liz could get to the rim at will and shoot in the mid-range game, what would it mean to Shaina who can get to the rim with any opening? Is Tatum like that? How about Jesse and Taylor? If you have scorers around them, how good could that make a Chloe, Nydia, or Aspen? I love the idea of assembling these scoring guards.

One of my favorite teams really had two players who shocked us all. A mediocre team with Dionnah and Maria dominated the Big Twelve tournament. They had a pretty weak interior, especially as compared to the other Big Twelve teams they faced in the tournament. The lack of a post was exposed in the NCAA. But, it wouldn't have taken a star post, just a decent post.

Notre Dame tends to be the one team that gives UConn fits. Is it ever due to a post?

Sorry Sybarite but your attempt to prove a point that we don’t need a dominant center at the expense of Paris is more of a reflection on the OU program vs one player...

I would never imply that we don’t need a dominant post i would take Paris over and over the problem there is you need more talent of kids that can make others around her better and take pressure of big timers You don’t need 5 shooting guards there are not enough balls to go around. Of course it’s nice to have all kids that can shoot but you need balance and defense. I think we have the pieces but i do in fact think we still need a dominant post. Most those kids can’t play a full 40 min anyway but you like to be able to throw out different looks. We had 3 1000 point scorers last season and we did a poor job or making them even better. It can’t be individual attacks 24-7 if you learn anything from uconn style it’s that. Yeah you got the Stewie and tarausi of the world but it’s the pieces aroundrhem that make them successful. We should of been better last season with those vets. Glue players will do that. I think we have those now time to fill the gaps with a big man!

You may be right. But, I also remember how John Wooden got started, prior to the superteam that he recruited.

His first national title team went 6-5, 6-5, 6-3, 6-2, and 6-1 which was not tall, even for that era. Yet, they outrebounded every team that they played that year. They really started nothing that anyone would consider a post. Everyone ran and ran and ran.

The following year, they were 6-6, 6-5, 6-3, 6-1, and 6-1. Yet, they won it again.

UConn and Notre Dame pass to perfection.

Are we assuming that Brown will commit? Or have I missed something?

I think Brown is being substituted for Bloom. I think I remember calling Bloom as Brown once.

AND the other Big 12 teams lost basically the same way, especially texas and Hypocrite U. UCLA did not have a stationary big nor did Oregon State. Seems like most other conferences are moving away from the typical post position.

UCLA had 6’4 Monique Billings last season and OSU had 6’5 Marie Gülich, so size did help them match up with Texas and Baylor. Both are currently in the WNBA... OU needs kid who make USAB and future WNBA players...

I’m not referring to size but traditional, back-to-the-basket post players. It’s the type of player. The Big 12 have/had maybe more of that type of post play than any other conference. Brown, Mompremier, Vivi, White, Jensen, Lewis, DeGrate, Terry, Montgomery, etc. The Breanna Stewart type (height, mobility and versatility) are the post/power forward types who are more successful now. Of course, there are exceptions. I think that’s why Nydia is going to be successful here and hopefully Brown, etc.
