2025-26 Season

Seems like its usually about Nov 10.
It’s been the same Monday for at least the past few seasons. It works out perfectly … I’d have a hard time going longer than a day or two between the end of baseball season and the start of the college hoops season.

Is this the earliest start to the season ever? It feels weird to be starting this early. I kinda miss the Thanksgiving start to the season.
We usually have a preseason game around this time, then start the season 5th-9th since at least 2018 from what I can tell. 2021 obviously doesn't count.

This is the earliest start

I believe we started around mid Nov since the early 2000s or late 90s.

Quantifying overall individual defensive impact/ability is the most difficult thing to do from a basketball analytics standpoint, imo.

Davis is better defensively than any of the numbers say he is. Had some to do with ND’s defensive style, some to do with what he was asked to do individually, some to do with the players around him.

I like Miyakawa as well and think he adds a lot of valuable information, but you can’t scout a player or team solely on a spreadsheet no matter how many new adjustments you make or how hard you try.
Given what Moser said, I’m pretty confident he will at least be good defensively. I feel like maybe he made that comment partially to motivate him and give him a goal to really make his defense a priority, so I’m not sure if I think he’s national POY level. But I really hope we are good defensively at the 3-5. They have the length to do it. I think our guards will struggle a bit on defense so having a good defensive frontcourt would really help.

My program guide extends out two weeks and it shows a college basketball game with teams TBD at the time of our Nebraska game. Since Nebraska is the only Big Ten team playing at that time, you have to think it’ll be our game, unless their programming plan changes completely and they show a football or volleyball game.

Has anyone heard any news on Jones? We are, what, three weeks into his totally-not-serious injury? Is there any hope he will play in, say, the first month?

It was a groin. I havent heard if hell play this first week or not. I would doubt it just bc of conditioning process.

Thanks. I’d guess it’ll be at least a couple weeks, probably more. I just wonder if the first month is even reasonable.

I think its already been 3 weeks. Guy told me he was really close... IDK though

At this point, I hope he is at least ready to go in 2-3 weeks (hopefully sooner), but even then, it’s probably going to take him some time to get back into “game shape”. If that’s the case, hopefully he’s 100% by conference play. We could really use the additional depth at the guard spot.

Kudos to Moser for building a deep team. Losing Jones sucks but it’s not a killer.

Yea given the fact that he missed all of last season, and now has essentially missed the past three weeks (at least), even if he gets back to full health, I bet it takes him a while to get in game shape, and even longer to find any kind of rhythm. If he isn't back playing in games by the end of November, I won't expect anything meaningful from him all season.

My comparison would be Gibson on the football team. All the big talk about him being our best WR and maybe best overall playmaker on offense through the spring, but he is invisible and can't get open. Either everyone overhyped him, he hasn't returned to form, or (most likely) a combination of those two things. Jones hasn't played a game in, what, 20 months? It's going to be tough for him.

Anyone want to go on record with your W/L predictions? I have had a really hard time deciding where I think we will end up. I do think we will be better than 6-12 in the SEC. I’m not sure if I see us getting to .500 … Moser has never done that at OU and only came within shouting distance once. I could see 8-10, though. But I don’t expect 13-0 noncon like last year. Gonzaga will be a true road game and we really haven’t had one of those lately in the noncon. The closest we came was UNC two years ago and they took it to us for most of the game. I see Gonzaga being a loss and think we will drop at least one of the other road/neutral games. None of the other noncon teams we play is that intimidating, but if you view three or four of them as close to tossups, odds are you’ll lose at least one.

So I guess while I think this deep should be/is better than last season, I could see a very similar regular season record, i.e., 19-12 wouldn’t surprise me. Honestly, the only thing holding me back from expecting 20+ wins is Moser’s track record in conference play. Unless he finally proves that he can avoid the January and February collapse, I won’t feel safe predicting it.
