2026 Recruiting Class

6 of the top 7 2025 in state players went to power 4 programs according to prep girls report rankings. In the past week the top 2 rated recruits have chosen Nebraska and Arkansas over OU from their 2026 rankings. It is unknown how they will pan out when they all get started in school. We did sign Lofton who was number 2 in 2025 rankings, but like the other 8, the verdict is still out on her. I stand by my post saying JB has trouble signing elite in state players.

I think we are using the term elite a little loosely here. I don’t care where we get our recruits from as long as they help us compete at the highest level. We didn’t offer her until late. I think there are similar level of talent players widely available.

I just don't know who we are actually a finalist for in this class besides the girl from the Tulsa area Stewart and she's not even rated in the top 100 nationally, so I have some doubts about her ability to impact at the collegiate level. Helping to hear some news of a '26 commitment in the early signing period...

Have those elite in-state recruits turned into elite national players?

Well there were like, 6-8 top 100 recruits in LAST YEAR'S class, and OU got 1. Hard to tell if they are elite yet. That is 12.5% - 16.67%. Including a 5 star from 4 miles from campus.

JB got lucky with Chavez, due to a large one-time cash payment to get her. 2026 will be a lower class, because the money was spent on here and the 2027 girl (Chastain).

The problem is. These recruits are going where the money is. Nebraska must be doling out the money. The guards they have and those that are committed. It will be hard for Stewart to make an impact. She was put in ON3 top 100. These days unless they are diehard Sooner fans. Nothing is guaranteed. They are still in on some ranked players.

The population of the state of Oklahoma is less than the population of the DFW area, for example. Statistically, Oklahoma isn't going to produce as many 'elite' recruits as the DFW area or other more populous states. In any given year, the top recruit in Oklahoma might be an elite national recruit or an elite player from Oklahoma might not even make the top twenty in a more populous state. I'm not a recruiting guru. I don't have the time or inclination to research these players, nor do I have the resources to go watch them play. YouTube videos are extremely subjective and cherry-pick the plays they want people to see. I'll continue to trust Jennie and her staff's evaluations and recruiting over that of keyboard warriors.
