Texas Hold 'Em: Longhorns, A&M To Big Ten
Oklahoma Looking To Move To SEC, Needs 1 Other School

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- High level sources in multiple conferences have told KCTV5 that Texas and Texas A&M are looking to move to the Big Ten Conference and have petitioned for membership, while the University of Oklahoma is planning on petitioning the Southeastern Conference to become a member of its conference.

KCTV5's sources said that Texas and Texas A&M do not have to include Texas Tech or Baylor in their plans. Sources told KCTV5 that there have already been discussions about the two schools entering the Big Ten and that the agreement could be made as soon as Thursday.

Oklahoma is currently working on petitioning to enter the SEC, but must find another university to enter the league with them, sources said. TMZ Sports has reported that Oklahoma State is likely to accept a bid to move to the Pac-10. Earlier Thursday, Colorado accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10.

KCTV5's sources also said that some Big 12 officials are saying decisions on which deals Big 12 schools take invitations by the end of the day Thursday, although the deals may not be officially announced. Big 12 officials also tell KCTV5's sources that some Big 12 office employees are planning to be without a job within weeks.

Those decisions would leave the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the University of Missouri with Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa State in the Big 12. The Missouri Board of Curators met Thursday and planned to meet Friday to discuss the future of Missouri sports.

Re: How about some SEC basketball in Norman?

I think it is really far-fetched to think that Oklahoma would be in a different conference than both Texas and Oklahoma State. Heck, Castiglione said just last night that OU will stick with Texas no matter what. But, stranger things have happened and things seem to be moving fast.

I am ready for this to all play out one way or another.

Ditto. I also find it strange that the Pac-10 would stop with OSU (Colorado I can understand for geographical, cultural, academic reasons). OSU just doesn't seem to fit UNLESS they were wanted to get a pretty big prize (i.e., OU) to go along. Of course, it could be the case that maybe other schools DID get an invite and only OSU accepted the overture. Either way, I think unless it's part of a larger plan, stopping at CU and osu seems extremely odd.

Re: How about some SEC basketball in Norman?

This would be stupid for so many reasons here's what Texas's road trips would look like

Lincoln Nebraska 800+ miles
Columbus Ohio 1000+ miles
Ann Arbor, Michigan 1300+ miles
Minneapolis, Minn 1000+ miles
East Lansing 1500+ miles
Iowa City 1000+ miles
Madison 1100+ miles
Happy Valley 1700 miles

Outside of A&M their closest conference road trips are about a 1000 miles away. Some are over 1500 miles away. That puts Texas at so much of a disadvantage in a conference plus they have no recruiting stakes in those areas. They might have to get rid of OU/Texas in Dallas because they would need more money to travel thousands of miles every year. Texas probably never travels more than 1000 miles most seasons at OU. Now you have 2-4 road games where you travel 1000 miles each time?

Texas would NEVER go for it.

It's also dumb for OU because of recruiting. They recruit in Texas, Oklahoma and they've been building a base in California. Without Texas schools in the same conference and not getting the hype from Texas media that will hurt OU's recruiting in Texas. The Pac 10 makes more sense for OU because they get hype in 2 areas they are recruiting well right now. California and Texas if Texas goes with OU. It helps OU even more with the probation USC is on.

For many, many years, Oklahoma State (A&M) was in the Missouri Valley Conference while Texas was in the Southwest Conference. For most of those years, Oklahoma was in the Big Six, Big Seven, or Big Eight Conference (A&M's joining resulting in the Big Eight). We have only been in the same conference with Texas in the Big Twelve and for about a year in about 1915 in the SWC.

Travel is the last thing they are worried about...

They have to travel in this conference and all that would change is maybe an extra hour on a plane...if the money is there they will be gone...

Yes but in the SWC the longest road trips Texas had was Arkansas and Tech

:clap im gonna stick with what orangebloods.com has been reporting. They seem on top of all this

The guy doing the reporting for orangebloods says that this report "is news to UT and aTm".

My sister works in the Athletic department, and this report has been confirmed by those in the office

yep texas and a&m to the big 10, we need 1 more for the SEC, oSu to the Pac 10

Not gonna happen. Besides, Joe C. has already stated today that OU would go wherever Texas goes.

I know that Joe C said that, I just passing info along as I get it. when I talked to her at noon it was for sure that OU, Texas, Tech, a&m, and oSu where all going with Colorado. This is a new development apparently

This may be bogus, but it's being reported that multiple sources in multiple conferences are providing the information that the Kansas City TV station is reporting. It may not be true but it makes for a helluva discussion anyway.

If that's what you're hearing dren I guess I can't argue with that...but man it just boggles my mind that the Pac-10 would expand with CU and osu. Just really weird--what the heck does osu add practically to the conference? (I am not trying to disparage OSU, just trying to be pragmatic here...)

The guy reporting it for the KC news station is the same guy who said that both Nebraska and Missouri had invitations to join the Big 10 months ago.
