I don't know if this theory has been posted, I haven't seen it, but do you think this search is so tight-lipped because Buzz has basically accepted the job and we don't want to become a distraction to his tournament run? As a politeness to Marquette and their fans, maybe we just haven't come out with any information because the decision has already been made and finalized?

Just a thought... kind of hope it's true.

We'll never get Buzz or anyone else worthy of mention, we should just hire Sean Sutton and get it over with. OMG OU basketball is dead blah blah blah blah

To be serious, you've got to think that if Joe C knew he was going to let Capel go or thought it was a strong possibility he would've been working on the coaching search for awhile now. So yes it is possibility that a deal is already done or done in principle with someone and they're just waiting to be able to announce it.

Everytime I think that might be true, I'm reminded of the following. It would have been pretty shady for Buzz to interview for the job, negotiate a contract, and accept it, without informing Marquette, and while trying to prepare his team for the Big East Tourney and/or NCAA Tourney.

If indeed there was "BUZZ" about him being fired from Marquette earlier in the year (from fans/etc) i could see this as a strong possibility...this is more of a home to him, and he is more comfortable with the area...

Just hope if he is having that type of pressure there he will be ready for the same type of pressure here next year if he doesnt win 20 games or play within 10 pts each game...there is no honeymoon period IMO...they need to start winning right away and have a core to do so...His first couple of signees will be very interesting...

Hope so, but I would rather the deal be with a different coach. Buzz would be great, but Stevens would be home run.

My sources and access to inside information are limited, compared to so many of our posters. But I see your theory as a definite possibility.

Who said he hasnt behind closed doors?

Not every school is as boneheaded as Tennessee...

I dont think by any means that a contract has been negotiated, but i do think something in principle could have been accepted...

The contact would not actually have been with Buzz, it would've been with a third party. That's how these things work. The coach can then always say they had "no contact" because technically it is true.

It was this quiet when Jeff Capel was hired. Read into it what you will. The only thing it means is that Joe C. keep things very close to the vest and quiet when making these kinds of decisions.

Yes, and I would like Mike Krzyzewski or Bill Self instead of Stevens but it's not happening. It's nice to dream, but it's time to keep it real.

Stevens isn't coming here and for anybody to think he is they are delusional. He had offers better than OU last season and turned it down. If he goes anywhere it would be to a traditional power job like the one in his home state in Bloomington.

Not any easy thing to keep quiet.

We'll know soon enough. When Marquette loses, if something doesn't go down pretty quickly, I think it's safe to say there was nothing "in place."

I just can't see Joe C hiring someone from another school without them knowing.

Also I don't see him as someone who would search for another coach as long as Capel was on the job.

I believe the Buzz Williams already hired as a pure fantascy.

that sounds a little under-handed to me..so hope that didn't happen...

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. Not sure why people have a difficult time figuring this out. It allows a coach to say he hasn't spoken to anyone, because technically it is correct, but someone representing him has.

Like what Scrybe said earlier, I too have no access to inside information or sources but the longer this goes on, and the less and less we hear about potential candidates, it would seem to me that Buzz is the number one guy. Having said that, I highly doubt anything has been agreed upon and that it is a done deal for him to be the next coach at OU. More than likely, I would expect that Castiglione put feelers out to see if Buzz had an interest and because he did, Joe decided to wait until his season was over to make him an offer.

I expect that shortly after Marquette exits the NCAA tourney we will have our next coach, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's Buzz Williams.

Think about it this way...you're not hearing a lot of denial coming out of Marquette or Buzz's camp. In fact, they aren't really even addressing it too much.

Makes one wonder if the school has been notified. Maybe not...we'll know soon enough.

You need to come over to the hire Buzz side. Stevens signed a 12 years contract extension last year. It will be a long time before he will be a candidate to coach anywhere but Butler.

I agree with those who say that a contract in principle is possible with Buzz Williams. If Joe C. made up his mind more than a month ago, as a reliable poster close to the program has suggested, it stands to reason that he already knew what direction his search would take when Capel was no longer in the picture. I'm not saying Buzz to OU is a done deal. But I do think there could have been some "what if?" dialogue with him, possibly through a third party who was putting out feelers at Joe's request. That's pure speculation on my part, but it makes more sense to me than believing the AD was sitting back and doing nothing.

Fun to speculate. But at the end of the day, we will never truly know how it went down.
