A word regarding the Tiny Gallon situation

To me, its pretty cut and dry and goes on among every fan message board that I read (including *gasp* Phog.net).

1. If a rival team has something bad happen to them or to one of their players, then it is natural for the rival fans to "jump to conclusions" about the situation. Assume the worst. Photoshop. Have some tasteful fun with it.

2. If your team has something bad happen to them or one of their players, then it is natural to encourage fellow message-boarders to wait and let the legal system, NCAA, or school admin to investigate and get all the facts. Afterall, anyone that really cares about this program wouldn't want for the Gallon thing to be a violation (and it may not be....we'll see).

Its called being a fan. I don't think it is unique to OUHoops.com (in fact I know that it is not). And I don't see anything wrong with it (again, its being a fan and hoping the best for your guys).

SO, if a report comes out that a KU player rubbed himself inappropriately onto an innocent women in an elevator, then I am going to let him have it on OUHoops.com. IF a former Sooner player reportedly received a 3000 dollar "loan" from a Florida State booster and an ex-coach has had reported contact with that same person, then I am going to hope for the best and wait for the facts. Why? Because this is OUHoops.com.

I really, really don't think it is that hard to understand. Is it a double standard of sorts? Sure. But this isn't a courtroom or an ethics roundtable discussion. It's a fan board. Therfore: OU = good. KU/OSU/Texas = bad. :)

U just described Owen Field... :p:p

The only people BT left out were the ones who try, and usually fail, to disguise the fact that they aren't really a fan of the team they are talking about.

I don't think every fan is necessarily one that sits, waits, and hopes for the best. I think everyone is the last part of the equation, hoping for the best (otherwise you're right). But, some people enjoy speculation, especially speculation about something serious in a down time of year for news about the team. No, it's not good detective work, but we're also not the compliance department or the NCAA investigating the possible violation. We're just fans discussing something we care about, hoping that everything is good, but not blind to the fact that things don't look as promising as they did a week ago or a few months ago. I don't think there's anything wrong discussing that.

That being said, we haven't really had much new information. The Tiny quotes were a few days ago and seem pretty hashed out. So, at some point, I think those who are tired of the uninformed speculation are right--it gets pretty old when nothing is new. Yes, we do know that if the hammer gets laid down on the program it's probably not looking so good for the job security of our head coach. We know there are likely punishments on the way. We also know that if the investigation turns out benign, then we will have nothing happen to us, and we'll be excited about the biggest recruiting class I can remember. The truth lies somewhere in the middle--and sometimes it's even fun to discuss where that truth will ultimately lie.

I'm a reasonably good researcher but there are some folks on this board five times better so I would like to know:

A) What is the tuition, r & b at schools at prep schools like Oak Hill?
B) Are the athletes they recruit given full scholarships, partials, if not, what?
C) Can a prep school "hold a transcript" if a parent hasn't paid back tuition?
D) If they do such a thing, as a common practice, won't that hinder their ability to recruit low income students in the future?
E) Is it uncommon for the prep school itself to arrange financing for a student to pay back tuition?

Answeres to the best of my knowledge:

A. around 27000 a year (per Oak Hill Website)
B. Usually Scholarships of some kind (not sure how up and up they are since its the AAU Circuit and the number Oak Hill offers themselves is limited.)
C. They can hold it just like OU does
D. That is why low income students that end up there are already used to being payed to play
E. Per the Oak Hill Website, yes they do have a loan program

Thanks Dren,

I knew somebody might find some answers.
As per E, I'm wondering why Tiny's mother didn't utilize Oak Hill's loan program. Second question I'd have is whether Oak Hill has any relationship with Hausinger? If so, are firm's like Hausinger's utilized to help prep schools finance student fees?

Mmmmm Hmmm. Wonder who those people could be?

I don't have answers to those questions. I went to a public school in a suburb of Oklahoma, and just went to the Oak Hill Academy website for the info i got. But it does not look good when you factor in that the loan could have been acquired from Oak Hill directly. Even if it was totally legit, which we won't know one way or another for a while.

This is just border line silly. If the facts were as clear cut as some would have you believe there would be no need for an investigation. The only time we know for sure that money was wired into Tiny's account by a financial advisor. (2) Taliferro was in contact with said advisor. The investigation is needed to find out whether the funds wired was in violation of an NCAA rule 2) Was a member(s) of the staff complicit in facilitating the transfer 3) Did OU have a proper system in place to prevent or identify the alleged transaction.

The exact analysis applies to the Kansas situation as well. Every organization has bad actors. What could Kentucky have done to prevent Gillespies DUI? The nature of the human specie dictate that on some issues you are going to be reactive instead of proactive because the actors are not the ones who you would expect to break a rule.
