Aaliyah Wilson

I think Aaliyah Wilson will pick the school that has her style of play. With that statement look the schools she picks with be uptempo ,pressuring defense type of team. Chou will go out west because style of play and academics of the two colleges(1.CAL 2.UCLA).I'm expecting her to go CAL Berkeley just my opinion. Mulkey make everybody feel comfortable with her. She is a good used car saleman.

I have a hard time figuring out why any coach would not run uptempo offense combined with a pressure defense. Most players like that style and it provides a great opportunity for success. We run uptempo but our defense is lacking in pressure.

I don't understand why we don't use more pressure defenses particularly with the depth we had last year. Maybe this year as we seem to have even more depth. Also with our lack of height (usually four guard offense) a press can help overcome that deficiency.

Also our out of bounds plays are absolutely brilliant but our half court offense doesn't get players open for easy shots and we end up dribbling or shooting under a lot of pressure. And our key offensive players simply disappear for long stretches. I don't like Mulkey's game attitude and antics, and she possibly is cutting corners on recruiting and I am not sure that she does a great job of developing players. But she is one hell of an x's and o's coach. Her players consistently get wide open easy shots. Davis gets twice the points that her natural ability would get her because of the offense. Her fake screen and slip to the hoop is open all game long.

Finally, I have never figured Sherri's rotation strategy. I almost always know the rotation Kruger is going to use but don't have a clue with Sherri. She seems to give someone like Wyatt 20+ minutes off the bench one game and then we don't see her have meaningful play for a number of subsequent games. That is just an example, I am not pressing for more minutes for Derica. Sherri did make a lot more use of her bench last year but there was not a consistent pattern. Some of the problem was clearly the excessive fouling by some of the starters and Maddie's slow start and very limited play early in the season.

On balance though we do some things quite well, particular transition offense and we have usually had competitive teams in Sherri's tenure. We definitely overachieved last year.

I think pressure defenses require two things: guards with quick feet and hands, and a rebounder/shot blocker in the back that can make it at least somewhat difficult for those who escape the press. I'm not sure that we have had enough of either---together. When we had Courtney, we had four McDonald's All-Americans, all of whom played in the same space, the post/power forward. We lacked outside shooting and defense. Curiously, when we had Danielle, we even made it back to the Final Four without Courtney because Abi and Amanda were sufficient, but we did need shooting, hence Hand.

I think we have a couple of players capable of playing pressure outside: Maddie and Gabbi. Do we have anyone else that has either their reach or footspeed to play defense? I'm not sure about T'Ona, LaNesia, and Penzo. I haven't seen footspeed in Gioya and Peyton. We have a part of what we would need. But, would you trust Kay Kay to be the defender behind them? We really need for Vivi, EJ, or Nancy to be the force that makes the inside uncomfortable in order to play pressure. We have enough to play it now outside. But, we don't have the stoppers or rebounders inside----or do we?

This is yet another example of why I love to read your posts. You are knowledgeable, honest, fair, and accurate in your critique/evaluation of the team.

At one time it was reported that OU was recruiting Wilson. I just don't think OU was able to build a relationship with her.
They always have trouble building relationship with those type of kids. It not Chad having the problems.

What type of kids? And if it is not Chad then who? Just trying to understand what you are saying, not attacking you.

Wilson told me OU was her first schollie offer but they did not stay in contact with her. She plays much harder than Dungee and is a better player than Dungee. Unlike Dungee she makes her teammates better.

Not the first time we have heard a recruit or commit make that statement about OU.

Remember Hand was out that year with an acl. Only played a few games at the beginning. Danielle, Jazz, Nyeshia Stevenson Amanda, Abi started most games and Carly ROETHLISBERGER probably played as many or more minutes than Jasmine. Also, remember Nyeshia had turned into a pretty good shooter as had Amanda. That was a surprising year after Whitney went down.

As for footspeed, you really think Gabbi and Maddie are faster than Gioya? If so, that much faster? Maybe I am just remembering wrong, but I thought Gioya and Lanesia were the fastest players on the team.

When we were recruiting Maddie, there was one scout who saw her against a guard that we all wanted. His comments were that he had seen Maddie blow by her before she could react. Remember that she is 6-2. She can drive a lane in one or two steps. But, what makes her deadly on a press is that reach. Her hands reach what, maybe eight feet (?) without jumping. At times, she is a one-person press.

Gabbi is quicker than it looks. She is quick enough to get to the rim at 5-8, effectively. They don't really stop her. She gets past them.

I don't think Gioya drives past anyone. But, a lot of the quickness that you need on defense is the ability to get yourself into position with your feet. I really haven't seen that with Gioya and LaNesia.

I am looking forward to watching. I thought I remembered the coach making some positive comments about Gioya's defense but that would not necessarily be about them pressing. And I agree that Gabbi is quicker than she looks and I have been impressed with how quick Maddie is. I guess what you are saying is that maybe they are quick, but Gioya and LaNesia haven't learned to get into position for the press or am I missing something? Also, I thought I had seen them both get to the basket in traffic and blow past people, but could certainly be wrong. I don't see as many games as you or many on here. Will probably actually go to several home games this year and am going to get the monthly package for internet access. Getting excited to find out how the players have progressed as individuals and as a team.

Funny reading this. The same thing was told to me by Didi Richards and her parents. Chad was really recruiting her then one of the 2016 kids told the head coach she would decommit if they kept recruiting her.

What's more amazing is Richards told me back in April that Oklahoma was one of the few schools she was considering.

Don't know what's going on up there but it doesn't seem like it's headed in the right direction. Good luck to you guys

Like Mulkey, Dungee has won at every high school level. State champ, AAU, and USA... I think she's one of the most decorated athletes Sherri has signed from the state of Oklahoma in some time. It sounds like if a Oklahoma kid isn't top 25ish Sherri doesn't really keep in contact with them, Geno is the same with kids from Connecticut. Remember Jackson just blew up this summer, with Dungee, Llanusa already committed it wasn't really a need for another guard/wing type of player... 2017 needs a point guard, and a power forward or tall power guard since Sherri likes to use 4 guards.

You're right, Gioya is the best we have at driving past her defender. Gioya, LaNeisa, and T'ona are all quick. While Gabbi isn't quick enough to penetrate like Gioya can, she is really smart which keeps her from getting beat on defense. Peyton is a similar player in that she isn't super quick, but she is smart.

No worries. I live in the DFW area. This basketball community in Texas is small it close we all talk to each from San Antonio to Houston to Dallas. All of our kids have played on teams with or against each other. Let's say every time we get together at tourney, camps. We talk about schools, rankings and our kids future. I have a daughter that currently plays college ball in Tx and another will be playing there in a few years. The one that in college was recruited by OU Chad was awesome great recruiter and even better person. Like many programs he does not have final say. The point I make a lot of kids would love to go to OU how many kids from DFW Elite ever make it on the roster. On OU roster Little is the only CY Fair kid. You have two of the top AAU programs in the nation and you only have one kid from both. For example Diamond Lockhart(TT/Wichita) ,AJ Alix (TCU) ,Jada Terry(AM/TT),D. Dillingham(Ms ST) Claire Ricketts(ISU)did not go to OU.I don't know if they were recruited by OU if not Why Not.

If a commit told me that if we signed an elite player, she would decommit, I would say, let me save you the trouble, we don't need you at Oklahoma. If we would have gotten a commitment from Richards, there is no telling what other great players would have followed her to OU. Does anyone think for a second that recruits or players tell Geno who he can and cannot recruit?!?!

OU should get elite kids from Texas and for some reason other than Chad....can't get it done.

Richards first cousin actually graduated from OU and played football for OU. Richards has family in Oklahoma and Kansas so the chances of her leaving the state were there.

When speaking with her on the situation, i could tell she wasn't really happy about it and OU was a real possibility for her.

Do you know if Mulkey is really her best friend?

Thank you. In what has become just another thread bashing Sherri's recruiting, filled completely with innuendo since none of you has the vaguest idea what Sherri has said to anyone, this post at least defends someone that so many seem to wish was not coming to OU.

Dungee and Mulkey (twice) were on the U-16 team.
----how many of the others that you think are better were even invited?
----they tried out against fifty other highly-rated prospects, and won
----their selection wasn't by a bunch of magazine gurus
----if I remember correctly, the coach that selected them was DRob's coach

Yet, some of you seem to wish that we would take some kid who hasn't even been considered instead.

After you have participated in the recruiting discussions between Sherri and a prospect, then you have an idea what is said. After you have participated in the discussions of a prospect by Sherri and her staff, then you will have an idea of what their evaluation is.
