When does this man enroll? I think he is the key to the season.
Not sure but I agree with you. Last year's team lacked a defensive post presence. AK should provide that.
Just take last seasons team and add multiple above the rim guys. AK hopefully earns starter like minutes to go with Buford, McNease and Lattin.
Now if they can increase ball penetration then a final 4 is within reach.
I just don't have high hopes for juco players. I like what I see from Lattin. And Buford having a redshirt year might be a plus.
I'm hoping that AK changes my mind but until we get a legit juco player, i just don't have high hopes for them.
OU basketball has been built from JUCO players...
And Oklahoma A&M won national championships. Its old news.
Juco talent now is not like it was back then. Its called Prep School. Its the new Juco. Not saying there isn't talented players in juco but its nowhere near where it was during your 'built on' years.

You're right, juco recruiting is not what it used to be. Like you, I have cooled to some extent on signing junior college players. But, as KBaden said, you go the juco route hoping to fill specific needs, not to develop a roster.
Jameel Mckay has been a nice piece at ISU. So was Justin Hogue. Kenny Cherry filled an important need at Baylor the past two years. There are others, but you get the idea.
While I agree that you can't rely on juco players like Billy and The Tark, and even Sampson used to do, there are still some good players available. Manyang may turn out to be the one that finally wins you over, and brings me back to where I was two years ago when I was in favor of signing a juco recruit or two every season. The jury is still out on that one.
We both know that long, athletic 7 footers don't come along too often. So, there is no way you can pass on a player who has a chance to be a game changer protecting the paint. There simply aren't too many true rim protectors out there at any level these days.
Oklahoma A&M won championships 70 years ago. Taj Gray and Terrell Everett were playing for OU 10 years ago. Big difference.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the last time JUCOs had a big impact on our team was KS' last year. Capel just sucked at recruiting JUCOs.
But prep schools have really taken off in the last 7 years. Capel has done a better job with jucos then Kruger. Washington and patillo are the 2 best we've had under the 2 coaches.
You're going back 10 years. That's your problem. Prep school has taken over the last ten years. Welcome to 2015

Correct me of I am wrong but wasn't patillo a transfer not a juco.

Grooms was definitely more valuable to the program than Washington...but I get your point. It's hard to believe the last JUCO impact players we signed (Gray and Everett) were more than a decade ago. Save for UNLV, no school in America is more historical in regards to finding JUCO players than OU. We should be able to land an occasional prize who can be one of the 3 or 4 best players on the team. I'm hopeful Manyang can be that type of player.
Juco. Came from College of Southern Idaho. Went to Western Kentucky after being booted off the team by Capel.
He played all of one semester at OU. 19 total games, averaging just under six points n 14 minutes per.
