All five Kentucky players going pro.

Orton LULZ... Hope he is not hiring an agent or he'll be in the D-League or Greece this time next year

Seriously, I look forward to watching future Sooners play here for 4 years, or 2-3 years for JUCO recruits.

Blake was an exception to the rule. As an OU basketball fan, I could live happily-ever-after without anymore one-and-done type recruits.

Screw the NBA. I want to see good college basketball played by good, solid college basketball players. I want to become "attached" to players that I watch grow over their OU careers. You know. Players like Hollis Price, Eduardo Najara and Kevin Bookout. (And yes, I know that Eduardo is in the NBA, but he spent 5 years at OU and I enjoyed watching him play and develop.)

I want to support my team, and not a bunch of arrogant jerks that could care less about my university.

I really just want my favorite team to win lots of games.

I think we all want that. But would you really want to be breaking in a new group of freshmen every year like Kentucky is? They lost the second weekend of the tournament and now they are starting over. I want some NBA quality players, but I want a core of good, solid players to surround them - guys like Traveler described - Cade Davis type guys.

Again next season there will be 8 or 10 perceived elite players waiting for players to declare after the season . Waiting for these kids to sign late period is foolish unless you are the 3 or 4 perceived elite hoop schools. Most schools get these kids only because the pt spot they wanted didn't open up.

Yearly soapbox rant. The elite players and coaches run and benefit from this system. Schools, donors and fans should want to legislate more stability to the system. Requiring early signing for freshman eligibility will stabilize the hoops landscape and cool a lot of coaching changes and crazy salary escalations.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Kentucky will be "breaking in a new group of freshmen every year" because of this one time thing. This is unprecedented. It's not going to be the norm. But the bottom line is Kentucky was in the NIT last year and was 35-3 and top 3 all year this year. It worked out well for them. But let's be honest this isn't a Kentucky or Calipari problem...this is what college basketball and the NBA created with the stupid one and done rule. They asked for it and they got it. I can't stand Calipari but there isn't a coach in the country, Coach Capel included, that wouldn't have signed John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe and Daniel Orton. And they will try again next year...and the year after...and the year after. It's whats been created by the one and done rule. Let the kids go pro out of high school, if they go to school make them stay 2 years. Problem fixed.

I don't really know what the best way to do it is. I will leave that to folks smarter than me. I suppose I was just saying that I really don't have any desire to get attached to college basketball players or whatever. I just want to see my team win. No disrespect intended to a great fan like Traveler of course.

A good rule but not enough of a fix. Lets say Self and KU win it all next year and UConn offers Bill 5 million a year next April just 2 weeks before signing because there are three 5star kids leaning to KU/Bill, that will go with Bill to UConn for 2years.

He's actually projected to go into the 1st round. I agree though, he definitely needs another year of seasoning to refine his game.

There is nothing wrong with that. If I'm a recruit the coach is probably the biggest independent factor I'm looking at as well.
I don't see what you laid out as a problem. This is America. People have choices on where they want to work. That is why I think an 18 year old graduated senior should be able to play in the NBA.

he is a top 20 pick in the draft

I read a Chad Ford article this week that said basically the same thing. It also said there are rumors Presti will take him with one of the Thunder's two 1st round picks. Not saying I like this idea, just reporting info

what a great story for college bball.

The NBA is becoming more pure than college basketball.
College basketball, recruiting, AAU, cheating.....sorry but college basketball is slimier than the NBA. And it's really not even close.
