All-star team

Norm, not meant as snark.

Stacey had eyes in the back of her head.

Oh I agree, the best passer ever at OU. She had a ton of assists. But, you have to admit, Caufield wasn't exactly chopped liver.

Here is a brief stats comparison between Dales and Caufield:

Career points:

#5 Caufield- 2125 pts.
#6 Dales- 1920

Field goals:

#5 Dales with 719 (44.4%)
#6 Caufield with 679 (47.6%)

Free throws:

#1 Caufield with 693 (84%)
#7 Dales with 346 (69%)

Assists:

#1 Dales with 764
#5 Caufield with 377

Steals:

#1 Caufield with 402
#5 Dales with 250

You can't leave Stacey off the first team, OU's first two time consensus first team All-American.

No, you can't. She'd be the 1st or 2nd player I would pick. It's great that we have so many options though!

If you look at that pool of players, you have these All-Americans:

First Team: C. Paris (4), S. Dales (2)
Second Team: D. Robinson
Third Team: D. Robinson
Honorable Mention: D. Robinson, A. Paris, A. Ellenberg

and these All-Conference:

First Team: C. Paris (4), D. Robinson (3), S. Dales (2), A. Ellenberg (2), D. Jackson, A. Paris, A. Thompson, W. Hand

Second Team: L. Caufield (3), L. Rush (2), D. Jackson (2), S. Dales, C.Hill, C. Welch, M. Villarroel, N. Stevenson, J. McFarland

Honorable Mention: C. Hill (2), E. Higgins (2), C. Welch (2), R. Ross, A. Ellenberg, W. Hand, A. Paris, D. Robinson, L. Rush, B. Brown, L. Caufield, S. Dales, M. Hook, N. Griffin

Clearly, I think that Courtney, Danielle, Stacey, and Aaryn would be on the "all-star" team.

If you want a 4 guard lineup, that last spot is down to LaNeishea and Dionnah. I might go with LaNeishea since we already have two point guards.

If you want a forward in that last spot, it looks like it's down to Ashley, Leah, or Caton. I might actually lean towards Caton out of those choices.

First team:
Courtney Paris
Stacey Dales
Danielle Robinson
Aaryn Ellenberg
Caton Hill/LaNeishea Caufield

Second team:
Dionnah Jackson
Leah Rush
Ashley Paris
Amanda Thompson
Whitney Hand

Honorable Mention:
Chelsi Welch
Maria Villarroel
Nyeshia Stevenson
Joanna McFarland

Norm makes some good statistical arguments for Caufield, but there can be no doubt that Dales was the engine that made that team go. There's a reason she was a 2 time All-American.

I want a post player who can grab 10-15 rebounds, play in the motion offense, and step out for the three. Joanna McFarland.
I want a four who can grab 8 rebounds, run in transition, and step out for the three. Caton Hill.
I want a three who can run the court and run the offense as point forward. Stacy Dales.
I want a two who can knock down the three. Ellenberg.
I want a point guard who can break down the defense, run, and guard the point. DRob.

I am likely the only poster to demote CP. To me, she never developed an offensive game beyond 5 ft. To run the offense through her was a mistake, leaving everyone else standing around. Higgins became a "decoy." Welch got benched.

If I could pick one player around whom to build a team, it would still be Stacy Dales. It is worth noting that she and DRob are the only two SC players to really make it in the WNBA.

O no head for the Hill's you've gave your opinion about a former player...

How many times has Rutgers been better than OU recently? The same could be said for LSU, Duke, North Carolina, and Georgia.

You missed the point. Sherri has done very well with every McDonald's AA she has signed as far as I recall. IF she could recruit more of those type players who are McDonald's AA and who are drafted in the first round of the WNBA, I don't think there is any doubt she would have a top 5 program. It doesn't matter how good the coaching is though, you have to have the talent to win it all.

Yet, somehow, having all those McDonald's All-Americans just doesn't seem to do some teams any good. Indeed, OU didn't win it all when we had four. Of course, the fact that all four were probably best at being centers didn't exactly help.

Maybe twenty-five years ago, Tennessee could win just by having all of the top talent. Now, there is enough to go around, and that talent has to be well-coached, and it has to fit. Baylor won it without having a single McDonald's All-American because the talent fit. Tennessee struggled to win their last two until they got a little JC point guard to bring it together. For all those All-Americans at UConn, they really had no shot at winning it this year until a single player suddenly matured at tournament time. They had lost what, about seven of the last eight against Notre Dame. Then, one player matures and it makes the entire team!!! Meanwhile, we went about as far as UConn was headed up to that point, and we had lost four players to injury.

It takes talent, but that doesn't equate to McDonald's All-Americans. If we had had Jo or Vegas with the Paris freshman year team, we probably would have won it then. We needed a fit. The 2002 team could have used either Courtney or Abi. Curiously, if CP had been here in 2002 rather than 2006, both teams might have won with the switch. The personnel would have fit a bit better.

If you will go back and check, I think that girl was not only a McDonald's AA but was the #1 rated player coming out of high school. Not exactly a surprise she played as well as she did her freshman year. Also, please note she didn't just start playing well in the tourney. She was their second leading scorer, second leading rebounder, and she shot 51% from the field for the year.

I still don't know what you mean by fit. If you mean talent, I'm in total agreement. Just not sure that's what you mean.

We all know that she was a McDonald's All-American. But, she really didn't play like it until the tournament.

Fit should be an obvious term. You probably won't get the full benefit of having four McDonald's All-Americans if they all want to play within three feet of the rim. It would be nice if there were also a point guard and a couple of shooters to go with one of those four.

If you check her stats for the first 6 regular season games of the season, you will see that she scored 93 points (15.5 ppg), 40 rebounds (6.7 rpg), in 135 minutes of playing time (22.5 min. pg). For a true freshmen, those are outstanding numbers.

If fit means that you have a complete talented team, I'm sure we are all in agreement with that. I've just never heard it described that way.

What you didn't say is that Breanna lost her job as a starter after those first six games. Let's see who they played and how she scored in what kind of game:

Charleston 103-39 21
Texas A&M 81-50 11
Wake Forest 96-34 20

She was a talent, but she lost her job and went into a season-long funk. She didn't really come out of it until the tournaments began.
