All-star team

AO was quoted someplace as saying that SC offered to redshirt her but she declined. She later wished that she had red-shirted. In any event, both she and AP got in shape, lost weight, and improved dramatically in their senior seasons. Why this was not undertaken in their freshman seasons is the question I have.

Hind sight is always 20-20! The program was in a new situation they had not experienced before much like AO. They had no idea what to do with the new level of talent they had as well as the exposure. It was like giving a 14 year old $2M, a Bentley, a Mercedes and a passport. Within a short amount of time, the money is gone, the cars are dented, no insurance, no maintenance yet they've seen the world and nothing to show for it.

I'd have thought that losing weight and getting in shape was pretty basic for any player, and we saw how much better AP and AO played in their senior seasons after they got in shape. I do recall reading that the Paris twins had been told to report to OU at 230 or whatever. I also recall reading that their father wanted them to "play heavy."

I don't think "getting in shape" was an issue for anyone on the team. CP has been tossed about on this board regarding issues of losing weight and "getting in shape", yet...she started every game of her career at OU, as far as I can remember. Not only did she start, she played the majority of minutes. It's not like fatigue was an issue. She was conditioned to play at her size and continues to play major minutes internationally. Now whether or not one likes her size is another story. I must assume SC liked it as well. It must have worked for her game plan.

As far as their father wanting them to "play heavy"...I have not heard that. His articles and interviews about them stated that they are comfortable in their bodies as women versus what society states to be the norm. I can't buy the conditioning and weight stories for anyone on the team during that stretch. They were not injured, AP started her junior year and she really didn't change her body TYPE until she left OU based on what I've seen. AO, I have not seen since OU.

For a person of reason and logic, Soonerbay's posts are like chalk on a blackboard.

I contend...she did not change her body TYPE until she left OU. It was just less of what she had already been. The picture in that article looks nothing like this. She didn't look ANYTHING like this at OU. Just saying...

Isn't anyone who loses weight just less of what they had been???

If by TYPE you mean that she was still a woman, I wholeheartedly agree. If you mean that her loss of weight didn't improve her ability to play basketball at a higher level, I couldn't disagree more.

Norm, really? BODY TYPE is referring to muscle versus fat. Muscle happens to weigh more. I know of numerous athletes that gained a few pounds but lose plenty of inches and replaced fat with muscle. Their body type changed. AP surely weighed less her senior year...because she said so. BUT, she clearly conditioned much better after leaving OU and clearly increased muscle tone and definition.

Some of the things I read on this board amaze me, but then again most are probably the average fan and just a little naive...IMHO.

How do you know that? She may have had plenty of muscle when she was heavier at OU but you couldn't see it! Sure, she may have lost more weight but that doesn't mean she gained more muscle.

Do you not think that your comments cause people to say the same thing about you?

Norm, I could care less about what others say. It's besides the point. I know because I saw her in high school, I saw her on at least 6 occasions when she was at OU and I saw her in the bay area after she left OU while working out at the same facility where I frequent. Then again...what does all of this have to do with an all star team selection?

PS...did you read your PM?

I don't have any PMs.

When you saw Ashley, that means nothing...that's what I'm trying to tell you. It is impossible to tell how much muscle mass a heavy person has. They may be ripped under those extra layers or they may not. So, I think you might want to take a different approach or drop this theory completely.

I can only laugh at your comment! Let's get back to the topic...

And how much better would she have been had she been in shape? How can you say that an athlete carrying around, in her case, probably 75 extra pounds is as good of an athlete because of it. Does Bolt sprint with a 50 pound spare tire? How good would LaBron be sitting on the couch eating chips and playing at 330? Who was better at OU - fat Fitz or in shape Fitz?

You guys are funny! Now you want to compare her to a sprinter, an NBA player and FITZ? LOL! And you're CLEARLY her personal trainer since you can determine how much excess she carried? Really LOL! But since you're asking questions...who was better than CP doing what she did? Who was better than WH doing what she did? Or should we start with the woulda, coulda, shoulda's with her. Maybe her knees would have held up if she had done more conditioning and preventative maintenance, right? That is just as asinine, ignorant and down right despicable as what you've just presumed about CP. Wow....Boomer Sooner. Yea, right.

Did you pick your all star team yet? Just saying....

We're talking about athletes being in shape or not and how it changes their performance. Your bringing up Whitney is ridiculous. I know that if CP is as good as you say and her weight doesn't matter she'd be playing in the WNBA. Instead she looks like she's playing in quicksand. She's a great girl and has always represented OU very well. It has nothing to do with that as it seems to with you. Had she gone to Florida your voice on this would be silent and you'd most likely agree.

Ruf/Nek,
What are you...never mind! I'll keep it simple for you.

She's been in the WNBA for at least 3 seasons...

Are you aware that there are other professional leagues around the world? She's averaging a double-double...in the top 10 in her league (Turkey) with points and rebounds.

You clearly didn't understand the WH analogy, but...never mind.:facepalm

I waited to name my all-star team until now because I really wanted to review and think about it. You see, there are several Sooners that are really close and I wanted to weigh all that I could before making my choices.

As I said much earlier, D-Rob and C. Paris are no brainers.

Dales always was to me too, but I wanted to see if I missed something or someone because she played both guard and forward.

Anyway... Here are my 1st and 2nd rotations

Starters 1st Rotation:

P - D-Rob
SG - AE
SF - Dales
PF - McFarland
C - C. Paris

2nd Rotation

SG - Caufield
SG - Higgins
SF - Hand
PF - Hill
C - Leah Rush

I have Caufield and Higgins over Jackson and I don't have a true point on the second rotation, but I think just as the five next best players, you have to put Higgins and Caufield in the 2nd rotation.

Jackson, Ross, Hook could have all been considered, but my second five is what I think were the best second choices if you would have had all 10 of them on the bench at the same time.
