It seems like we'll be a very good FT shooting team again this season.

...
@OU_MBBall: A D.J. Bennett two-handed slam on the inbound brings the Belgian crowd to its feet. Think M'Baye vs. OSU in Norman. #Sooners

@OU_MBBall: FINAL SCORE: #Sooners 84, Waregem 66. OU improves to 2-0 in Europe, plays again in Antwerp tomorrow morning CT. Tonight's stats coming.

Early game today and up 23-12 after 1. They've been told today's team is the best of the 3, at least on paper.

@OU_MBB: We've got ourselves a ball game. St. Jan-Antwerp cuts it to 6 (61-55) with 8:30 left. Hornbeak quickly responds with a floater off glass.

@OU_MB: OU's lead reduced to 5, but Woodard drains a 3 from wing and Cousins follows with offensive board and putback. #Sooners up 73-63. 4:54 left.

@OU_MBBall: Booker with a lay-in after a Cousins steal and Neal with back-to-back big 3's to put #Sooners comfortably up, 81-65 (2:55 to go). 13-2 run.

Oklahoma Basketball ‏@OU_MBBall
FINAL: OU 89, St. Jan-Antwerp 68. #Sooners end game on 21-5 run after lead was down to 5, improve to 3-0 in Europe. Stats to come.

I love how they are finishing these games off in the final quarter. Repelling runs, pressure defense, offensive rebounding... Different identity from last season.

Me, too! I'm also impressed by the number of players who are contributing on offense, something most of us were concerned about this season. I haven't seen any stats for the game just ended. But through the first two games in Belgium, 8 different players had scored 14 or more points. And they did it without Buddy in the lineup.

Since we don't know much about the competition so far, I realize it would be a mistake to take too much from these games. But I still can't help but be encouraged by the performances our kids have turned in through the first three games, on defense as well as offense.

The way I look at these games are just extended, competitive scrimmages. Nothing is better preparation for basketball team than playing scrimmages as a team against other teams. Practice and drills are great but facing live bullets in games that don't actually count will do wonders for this team. There are also built in stressors. Not having Buddy and either of the JC big guys has shortened the bench somewhat and gotten more guys more minutes, more run, and more reps in running offense and playing defense. All good things. The level of competition doesn't matter as much as it just being competition. If they aren't as good as say our first 2 exhibition teams, then we use these games and the preseason practices to build to that point. If they are better, so much the better for our development. Regardless, these games will give the guys a great starting point when the JC guy(s) show up. They then just have to get Buddy healthy and the new guy(s) up to speed.

I was gonna say, our guys are really stuffing some stats. If some of these new guys can really score like this in the real season we will be in for a treat. However, facing a team like Kansas might be a little different than the Belgium dudes... But at any rate, I agree 100% KBaden... It would have been interesting to see how Buddy would have fit in. By the way, how long are the quarters?

10 min, I believe.

Belgium has a total population of around 11 million which is 1/3 the combined population of Oklahoma/Texas.

When you consider there are only 3-4 players in the entire state of Oklahoma each year good enough to get an offer from OU, along with the fact that basketball is infinitely more popular in the US you get an idea of the competition level. Probably quite a bit less than normal exhibition games which you can tell by the amount of turnovers we have been forcing.

If it was cycling or soccer they would be stomping us. lol

It's nice to see Bennett putting up numbers but you really have to question if it means anything since these teams likely have nothing in the paint to slow him down.

They hire players from all over the world. That's why guys like Fitz play in Poland. When I looked at our first opponent's roster online before the game I saw that they had some guys who played college ball in the U.S.
