Andrea Riley's Jersey

No, it's an honest question. What do people think the criteria should be for someone to have their jersey retired? All-American once? All-American multiple times? Do they have to have been conference player of the year? What player's jerseys should be retired? CP, Phylesha Whaley, Stacey, DRob?

We've never retired a jersey for a female player before. I just think there must be criteria to do that.

I was shocked to see Aaryn wearing number 3 so soon after Paris was gone. I think being a 3 time big 12 player of the year, as well as all the national records she has that still stand, should be a good start as to why it should happen.

You can retire the jersey, but not the number. A future player can still use the number.

Uconn has the same rule, not sure if I have asked this before but does Sherri have anything against tattoos or headbands? I never really see the girls wear them.

In basketball, there are only 36 player numbers (maybe only 35, not sure if 00 is used). If basketball numbers were retired, some teams would soon be pretty restricted. Just think of all the great players that have passed thru the UConn or Tennessee programs thru the years.

I also agree that asking what the criteria should be for retiring of a jersey is a very valid question, whether the player in question is CP3 or anyone else. I'm sure that she would easily qualify, but still, there should be some criteria established for any past or future player to receive the honor.

I'm not suprised that OSU is retiring Riley's jersey. She and Budke really turned around that program and it's been on pretty sound footing ever since. I have some real doubts about her as a player tho, especially her shooting percentage and her repeatedly jumping into players to draw fouls (but hey, that's part of the game). But its hard to deny the impact she had on that program.

I've seen players wear headbands, too.

Ellenberg wears a headband. So does Griffin, Williams, and Edwards. And probably two or three others that aren't coming to mind right now.

I think he was talking about the kind of headbands we often see runners wear that come across the forehead.

The terrycloth ones? I think the terrycloth ones serve a different purpose than the ones I've seen Griffin, Williams and Edwards wear. I've always figured the terrycloth ones keep sweat out of their eyes. The others keep hair out of their eyes.

Does it surprise anyone that OSWHO is retiring her jjersey during the OU game? They can talk about her 45 points the time they beat us.
