Another Player For Next Year -- Maybe

Ha! No question. Let's just finish out the roster and start prognosticating about the season already. Too damn late in the year for all this craziness.
A part of me wonders if this won't be the norm in the not too distant future.

It's something we'll have to deal with. It does make the off-season more of a diversion when compared to the typical downturn in news.

No Marv.

Top left pick led me to "squint mode.".

Same. But I'm pretty sure that's the back of Harkless' head.

Also: the whispers are growing stronger and stronger that Obanor will be a Red Raider. Should be announced in the next day or two (no later than Friday)

The best part? If the season started tomorrow we’d have really good players at every position with three or more solid backups. Any recruit we sign with that last scholarship will be a bonus.

Anywhere you go, as a coach, the number one factor in success (wins/losses) is going to be players/talent. You get players and you've got a chance....without players you are doomed.
I always said, ya can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****....so yes, players do matter.

Jaden changed both social media pages to an image of him an Alabama uni. Probably signals a return to Bama. He then tweeted “I can’t wait to hoop again”. Bama fans expect him back. There has been no formal announcement.

Not that it matters much for OU (except they could play him), Obanor is deciding this weekend.

Moser was on the Oklahoma Breakdown pod with Teddy and Gabe and as he discussed individual players, Johnson was the one name never mentioned. Looking more and more likely that he is no longer part of the program.

I watched a reel (video on IG) from Bryce Daub yesterday. Whole team working out, running on a practice field...

Every player except, yep, Marvin.

I'm sure most of you know by now, but Obanor to Tech, officially.

Regarding Shackelford:

Bama fans expect him back, he changed his social media back to him in a Bama uni, and apparently Coach Oats flew to Cali yesterday (to meet with JS is the speculation).

Door isn't closed officially I suppose but it looks less likely.

Hate that Marvin is gone. He fit the role on the one spot I believe this team is lacking - a long, athletic wing. Doesn't appear to be any other options. Now gotta run with the guys we have.

Nobody with a remedial understanding of Marvin Johnson ever set their watch to him doing much for the Sooners. He's been a knucklehead for a LONG time. Close proximity to his old buddies lit what was already a very short fuse.

I have to hand it to you, you said that from the moment he signed. I thought to myself, nah, sure enough he'll see this incredible opportunity he has in front of him and keep his nose clean. Unfortunately, I guess common sense and intelligence is much more scant than I even thought nowadays. I admit I was excited also about his length and athleticism. Oh well!

well, this is officially over

Damn. Too many second-place finishes this offseason for my liking.

Agreed. I cannot be more excited about the Porter Moser era. I cannot wait for the season. He obviously won some big recruiting battles for the transfers we got. But it doesn't feel like OU is leading for anybody with all the guys he's had in to visit for '22. And that's been numerous. Feels like we've lost out on some transfers of late. Ready for OU to win a commit(s) for a big-time recruit(s) with a great offer list(s).. I realize we have numerous self-loathing basketball fans, but, this is OU!

I won't claim to know about 2022 recruiting, but it seemed to me that Moser crushed it in the transfer portal.

He basically had to fill an entire roster in a month, plus hang onto our prep signees and the general consensus now is that we're at least a bubble team.

There would've been few people that would've said that was possible two months ago.

Thanks. Sometimes I get greedy and I need to be brought back to earth. I agree with you totally. To be clear, I wasn't panicking. I guess with his personality/recruiting pedigree and his 3 home run hire recruiting assistants I guess I thought '22 guys would be throwing themselves at his feet.

It could be too that like Coach said they are really tight lipped and information on who OU is leading on is really hard to come by. I guess we'll find out eventually. Seems like the '22 class could be fairly large, depending on who all decides to use their extra year or not.

I share your enthusiasm for the Porter Moser era. With a solid showing in his first year or two, I think Porter will start finishing first more often.
