Any chance OU goes after one or both of these transfers?

I'm guessing I'm going to be in the minority on this one, but I'm glad Houston is limiting these guys like they are. And here is why.

They never even gave Kelvin a chance to recruit them. Why? My suspicions are that both were hoping to catapult their success this past season into a scholarship at a better school. I might be off base, I'm just making and educated guess based on some of their comments and the timing, but both seemed VERY eager to leave Houston as soon as Dickey left.

The restrictions seem pretty typical. I read no teams in Texas, no teams within their conference and no teams on their schedule.

That would be great to pick up a PF from among those 2 guys. I doubt Kelvin would block OU but he obviously doesn't have much influence over them either. Thomas is a big, rugged post player whereas House is more of a wing. Thomas is a junior out of Killeen Tx which is about half-way between Waco and Austin, and House is a sophomore out of Houston.

I read the following quote out of the Houston Chronicle.

If granted their releases, Thomas and House would likely have to sit out a season unless they petition to the NCAA to play immediately.

I would only be interested in one of these guys if they were immediately eligible to play next season. I see House as the same size and type of player as Dante Buford .... but he may be more ready to play next year. I'm more interested in the 6'8" 240 lb Thomas who led the Houston Cougars in scoring (15.4) and rebounding (8.1) last season and was a second-team American Athletic Conference selection. He only has one more year of eligibility whereas House has two. I don't know how likely a petition to play immediately would be granted since there is a coaching change to consider. I imagine it's based on precedent in similar situations.

I added this link to an article that makes it seem 50/50 for immediate eligibility.

.... the (NCAA) subcommittee proposed two recommendations (ultimately got put on hold for further consideration) – albeit similar ones – one affecting undergraduate transfers, and one affecting graduate transfers. In both cases, there would be no possibility of immediate eligibility .....According to NCAA data from July 2012 to June 2013, (only) 39 of the 62 undergraduate men's basketball players who applied for waivers received them.

Why would the NCAA allow them to play without sitting out? Why do they think they are special? What happened at Houston besides a coaching change? I can understand them wanting to play within Texas and appeal that, but if the NCAA allows them to play immediately, wouldn't they have to let everyone?

Most athletes pick a school because of a coach and his staff. Why doesn't a coach have to honor his contract? Why doesn't the coach have to sit out a year if he wants to switch NCAA schools? A coach can tell a kid he isn't going to get playing time in the future or even pull a scholarship, so why do they get to dictate where a kid can transfer? A coach can promise to be there all 4 years but gets a better offer, or the school makes a change and the player doesn't fit the new coaches style. I don't know why the commitment isn't a 2-way deal.

If an entire coaching staff leaves and another staff comes in, then I think the players ought to be able to make a choice to stay or transfer without penalty.

It is the GOLDEN RULE. Those that have the gold makes the rule.

A coach can and often is fired before his contract ends as well.

I think the transfer rule is mostly to keep other teams from going after players. I think the rules require the transferring player to declare that he is transferring and/or contact the new school before another team can talk to him or her.

I am always a little suspect about a team that gets a lot of transfers. If a coach can attract all of those transfers how come they are not good enough to attract a lot of recruits?
