Any New Conference Predictions after Start of Season

I actually think WVU is a better team than us.

How, at this time, could you say WVU is a better team than us when we beat them on a neutral court while also committing a season high fouls, giving them +10 in a free throw advantage?

To me that number is non significant.

We had 19 points from the freethrow line
They had 24 points.

Only a difference of 5 points. The only thing the fouls shows is that we are deep enough to win games even if we are in foul trouble.

With limited data and OU beating WVU head to head on a nuetral court, I don't get how kenpom (or anyone) could predict WVU to finish ahead of OU.

Well, first off, the data will change as the season progresses.

But secondly, you're talking about one single game. Just about anything can happen in a single game.

Hell, OSU beat Mizzou in Stillwater last year.. that doesn't mean we were better than them.... just means we beat them on that given night.

right. so you go with the data you have. We have three games. One of them was against WVU on a neutral court. Seems easy to me.

I dont know why, maybe im just being silly, but I feel like west virginia is better than us. I know we beat them but to me west virginia looked like the better team. I thought we had a really good game by multiple guys, otherweise we would have lost. I dont think west virginia played incredibly well and they still had a chance on beating us.

I certainly respect your opinion, but disagree nonetheless. OU played a good game, but let's not get carried away here. Pledge and Hield couldn't make anything drop from the outside. I wouldn't count on those guys, especially the former, to keep missing wide open shots at that rate. That could be offset by how well the guys in the post played. When both those phases of the game are clicking, OU can beat just about anybody. If neither are clicking, we'll lose to most of those games. If it's one out of two like yesterday, we should at least beat the teams we're better than.

Appreciate all the responses. Be interesting to see how it changes right before the season tips off. I think this conference can go any way 3-8. Protecting home court and sweeping TCU and Tech will be important. See us needing to win on the road besides TCU and Tech to get to dance. If we can hold our home court besides one game. Kansas is always tough to win one from. That would get us to at least 10 conference wins and that will be good to be on bubble and definitely go NIT.

I think West Virginia is going to be much better come big 12 time. Murray and Kilicli should end up being the best post duo in the big 12.

This is kinda what i was thinking. Although im not 100% sure they will be the best in the big 12. I think this is the reason why im claiming WVU is better than OU because I was extremely impressed with their post players ability. Not saying they outperformed us, but man I can see those guys being really good come January.

I think as of today if we played them 10 times we would win 5 oppertunities.

But in 4 months im not so sure that holds. I am just not that impressed with our post play and I think we will struggle alot with rebounding.

Agree on the rebounding. Gonzaga really exposed us.

But that one game is not all of the data we have.

OU and West Virginia have played a collective total of 7 games not against each other.

So the outcome of your head-to-head game makes up only 14% of the available data.

Again, I think it's early to get too worked up about any of these computer polls, but it's also a good idea to remember that one single game often doesn't have too much of an impact.
