Ardmore's Nino Jackson Considering Sooners

We gave Jarboe a 2nd chance, remember? He was arrested at high school for taking a gun to school or somesuch. We allowed him to enroll and show up for summer workouts then he screwed the pooch.

Chaisson was also given a 2nd chance and he was never a problem, as far as I know, he just decided to quit football. Some claim he struggles with depression, or something like that (bi-polar, etc.). I think the coaches would take him back if he wanted it (to come back).

As others mentioned, Capel didn't have the oomph (lack of a better word) to deal with problem kids. I think Kruger can deal with them so if it were me, I'd give him a chance.

Yes I realize we gave Jarboe a second chance, and my point is we shouldn't have. A kid gets in trouble for having a gun on school grounds, and we take him anyway? I expressed my displeasure with it at the time, and was of course ripped almost universally on one of the football boards. The same can be said of Chaisson. The guy goes psycho and threatens to kill his girlfriend, and we take him anyway? While he may not have gotten in "trouble" again while at OU, I still don't think we should have taken him. While OU basketball might have to take a chance on kids like these, there is absolutely no reason for OU football to.

We're not in a position at this time to turn a kid like him down. It's only taking ONE chance on one kid. In building a championship level program, we will have to be willing to take a few chances from time to time. The coach's job is to manage these types of players. You don't want a lot of them on your roster at once, but one at a time should be manageable.

Honestly this conversation really isn't even worth having. How many times has this kid been seen in public wearing KU gear? This is the type of player that Capel wasted too much time recruiting, hopefully Lon doesn't make the same mistake.

I can't disagree with anything you have said. The problem is we have taken chances with kids before and it paid off and the kid had opportunities he probably never would have had if it weren't for a football or basketball scholarship. Kejuan Jones is one who comes to mind, and I'm sure others exist but I can't think of them now.

I am glad we gave Broyles a second chance.

Not all "second chances" are created equal. Having a gun on school grounds is one thing. Threatening to kill your girlfriend and holding a knife to her throat is another thing. Stealing a little gas is quite another thing entirely.

Since this thread is about Jackson....Why are we talking about giving him a 2nd chance when he hasn't even done anything wrong yet.

I have no idea. I was simply responding to BOB's comments about Jarboe and Chaisson.

I said to give him a 2nd chance because some on the board are convinced he's a thug and not worthy of a scholarship.

It's not really his 2nd chance per se as in the other examples.

I'm just not ready to write off a good talent because he has a few tattoos and somebody thinks he's a thug.

Why would he play AAU ball with a team from Cali?

Because they recruited him to play with them. Shaq Morris (Edmond Santa Fe, 2013 PF) is going to be playing with them as well this summer.

No its not. I think it has been darkened or something for effect but the dude is that tatted up (not that there is anything wrong with it...)

It's been photoshopped which means it's not real.

It's been photoshopped and likely some been added, but even if not it's still a fake if it's been photoshopped.

After looking at a couple videos of him in interviews and playing time, it seems like he does have most of these tattoos if not all. Either way, I'd love to see him in a Sooner's uniform in the future.

Pictured below: Nino Jackson goes baseline for an And 1 against Warren from Something about Mary.

Doesn't bother me either, he's got nothing on the Morris Twins. :)

For those who have seen him play....What player does he remind you of??? And is he Kansas' to lose??

Who cares if he has tattoos. Hopefully Coach Kruger will let any recruit know that attitude problems won't be tolerated up front.
