UALR lost in the second round of the pre-season NIT to Green Bay.

Starters:
Monique Townson 5-6 Jr G Returning starter
Ronjanae DeGray 6-0 Soph F
Charde Collins 5-9 Sr G Returning starter
Raeyana DeGray 5-11 Soph F/G
Emily Lytle 5-11 Fr G
Kaitlyn Pratt 6-1 Sr F Started first game, not second

UALR lost their top two scorers, Alexius Dawn and Shanity James who also led them in rebounds by a large margin. We should remember James. Pratt was #4, and Collins was #3.

They were 20-13 last year, rpi #102. They began slowly with a tough schedule, but raced through the conference until losing to Troy in the last game. Lost to St. Louis in the first round of the NIT by a point.

This will be a good mid major and a test, if we take them lightly. A very good coach and scappy bunch of players.

I think the only live TV is the SoonerSportsTV by subscription. There is a re-telecast on UVerse at 12:00. I'll probably watch both since the computer has a 22 inch screen, while the HD is a 50 inch.

OU is 5-1 vs Arkansas-Little Rock, losing 12/14/14 in Little Rock, 62-66. We won 65-52 in Norman last year.

The game is at 7:00.

OU 10-5, Vivi with six.

end of first quarter
OU 18-11
we have substituted a lot. UALR has no depth. Ijeoma played well as the first post off the bench.

34-33 at the half as they pull within one on a ridiculous almost underhanded three by someone who hadn't scored this year until she hit two late threes.

We didn't really work the boards well. Vivi did. Peyton having a good game. We took some weak shots and ended up 38.7% for the half, two of seven from three (both by Peyton). We subbed a lot. With the exception of Ijeoma, the bench really didn't play well. T'Ona and Chelsea did hit a shot each.

Need to think.

Good evening everyone, Is anyone having trouble logging into the live event. I have the package (prem) but can't get in tonight. Please keep the scores coming. Thanks oketex

OU 68-58

17 Little
12 Vivi, also had 12 boards
9 Maddie, 5 boards, two assists, a steal and a block
Gioya, Ortiz, and T'Ona with six each. Gioya fouled out.
Ijeoma Odimgbe did quite well in relief of Vivi. Nancy got a block.

UALR had a couple of players who seemed to hit everything. They got to Gioya on defense. Good early-season opponent.

I thought we were out of control at times.

Agree, we are playing faster than we should, quick but not out of control is best.

Both games the team is getting to the rim a lot but not finishing very well.

I really like our pressure defense. We seem to be fighting for rebounds better than I have seen in a while. We still are having difficulty finishing at the rim, and I am a little disappointed that we feed Vivi in the first quarter, then almost forget when she is on the floor. Proud of Peyton stepping up, and Ijeoma seems to play better each game. I do agree with Syb, we are playing out of control and making un-necessary passes in forcing the action. A little patience will go a long way. It looks like the kids are having fun and I can see this team could be very good by conference time if they keep working.

Chelsea played a lot tonight (15 minutes) - and was in at crunch time at the end. She probably played the last 7 or 8 minutes of the game. It looks like Sherri expects her to contribute a lot this year. I think Chelsea is going to turn into my favorite player on the team. She does not play like a typical freshman.

Hooray for Vivi's double double. Great to see that, regardless of the opponent.

Pretty ragged game. I guess that they play good enough defense to make it look ugly.

Good game for ViVi and I really like EJ coming off the bench in the middle.

Payton back at least for this game but didn't get enough shots off.

ViVi and Maddie do a nice job of blocking out, Dungee too but we still have to many who just try to rebound on the fly without blocking out. Gabbi and Edwards good at that.

Only 3 minutes for Wyatt? Also Dungee got a quick hook in the first half just after she scored. she had a solid game marred only by a bad turnover.

On the less positive side we missed too many layups but most were forced shots that we probably should have turned down. Hope we don't get into that mode again.

We are still struggling for continuity. Again a good start and just as soon as we substitute the lead melts away. More of an offensive funk than defensive. Hope we can get our rotations more productive. Another problem was that when the starters came back in they never got into rhythm until late in the game.

Didn't get to watch the game, but I think you're probably spot on with that observation. In their previous game, the Sooners got to the rim almost at will, but they muffed one bunny after another in the first half. The girls did a much better job in the second half, however.

If they're able to get that issue corrected, these Sooners could become very good at some point. The team's depth is amazing.

Thought we played well in all phases and just needed to shoot a little better, save and except for Little.

I have always wondered whether we would be better off with stopping our dribble and shooting midrange shots. We tend to turn it over some going all the way to the rim and, frankly, the bigger issue for me is that we don't hit all of our layups anyway. Other girls teams don't make their layups as consistently as the boys either. I'm sure Sherri and other girls coaches have given that some thought and it must work out in the end having the girls go all the way to the rim. But, sometimes I wonder about that in the girls game.

VIvi is our anchor. IMO, the other key elements are Little, Carter and Manning. We need two of the three perimeter players to have good games for us to be really good. Last night, Peyton was good but manning and Carter were off their games and the result was a close game.

These are games that can be easily lost, but the girls played to the end and won. This is a good sign.

Girls seem to have an energy and intensity this year and seem to be having fun, which at times I didn't see last year. Good to see.

They didn't have the size to compete with Vivi and EJ, and both have stepped up this year.

Peyton hit threes, but didn't really have her best game otherwise. She is a better defender and rebounder usually, and she led to some turnovers.

Maddie missed too many. But, she hit some key shots at key times. She was rushing her layup, and it went over the rim, too hard. But, she does too much other than score to take her out of the game.

Gioya had as bad of a game in this one as her game was good in the last one. Not only was she throwing up bad layups, she was making mistakes all over the floor. She simply could not keep up with her man who drove around her repetitively on her way to a 21 (?) point game.

Dungee did OK. She gets too excited at times as well. Gabbi had a bit of an off selection night, shooting wildly on layups at times. Her worst game of the year.

Edwards does something good. Then, she causes three turnovers by dribbling into the middle when it is blocked.

In this game, I think we didn't see one player at all that I think would have been good--Penzo. Where was she? We needed a defender who could locate people on the pass.

It's about getting to the rim with the right layup, not just throwing up shots. I got the impression in the first game that they were simply trying to get the calls and shoot free throws. They weren't calling those last night.

Somebody made the comment that some just stand there and watch the rebound. Yep.

This has been a weakness every year Sherri has been coach, don't know why.
